Skills in the use of personal computers and related software applications. Ability to analyze, verify, and manipulate clinical and/or laboratory data.
Responsibilities:
Conducts clinical laboratory tests and analysis in the areas of hematology, microbiology, immunology, clinical chemistry, and urinalysis.
Analyzes samples of biological material for chemical content or reaction.
Conducts chemical analysis of body fluids to determine the presence of normal and abnormal components.
Cultivates, isolates, assists in identifying, and conducts tests on microbial organisms; obtains, cuts, stains, and mounts biological material on slides for microscopic study and diagnosis.
Selects and prepares specimens and media for cell culture, using aseptic, technique. Studies blood samples to determine the number of cells and their morphology, as well as blood group type, and compatibility for transfusion purposes.
Operates, calibrates, and maintains equipment used in quantitative and qualitative analysis such as spectrophotometers, calorimeters, flame photometers, and computer-controlled analyzers; promotes safety, environmental, and/or infection control practices.

Responsibilities
Prepares specimens for testing or reference lab. Processes specimens, accurately labels, correctly stores patient specimens according to established procedures. Prepares reagents and kits for testing, performs culture set ups and stains, lab aide functions, blood product confirmatory testing, and releases blood products. Exercises care necessary to complete work accurately and appreciates serious job nature and impact on patient care and treatment.
Conducts waived testing once competency is documented. All work is reviewed and all results are entered into epic and released by a medical lab technician or technologist.
Operates equipment needed to perform duties such as centrifuge, tube system, automation line, monitoring systems for refrigerators and freezers, computers using assigned programs.
Performs equipment maintenance and basic service. Documents maintenance and temperature checks. Maintains accurate records of duties. Performs necessary duties for cap accreditation as requested. Follows safety guidelines in operation of equipment and properly uses equipment.
Cleans laboratory facilities and equipment. Breaks down and stores supplies. Maintains department supply inventory as assigned. Stocks supplies for all stations and other areas/carts as requested.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Collects, processes, and handles blood and/or other biological specimens in accordance with established procedures; instructs patients in the appropriate collection of samples.
Conducts clinical laboratory tests in the areas of hematology, microbiology, immunology, clinical chemistry, and urinalysis, as assigned. Conducts chemical analysis of body fluids such as blood, urine, and spinal fluid using microscope or automatic analysis.
Conducts blood tests for transfusion purposes and blood counts.
Develops and maintains cell/tissue cultures for testing purposes; examines cells to locate abnormalities.
Prepares volumetric solutions and reagents to be combined with samples, following standardized formulas or experimental procedures.
Sets up, adjusts, maintains, and cleans laboratory equipment; promotes safety, environmental, and/or infection control practices and methods.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Physical and Environmental Demands
Requires occasional exposure to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environment such as high noise level and exposure to heat and cold, constant exposure to bio-hazardous conditions such as risk of radiation exposure, blood borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals which mandate attention to safety considerations, constant work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality, frequent bending, occasional lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, occasional crouching/stooping, frequent pushing/pulling, frequent reaching, frequent sitting, frequent standing, frequent twisting, and frequent walking. (occasional-up to 20%, frequent-from 21% to 50%, constant-51% or more)

This will include human milk feedings (expressed breast milk, and pasteurized donor human milk) as well as ready to feed formula. The Milk Lab Tech is responsible for calculating, preparing, delivering and monitoring specialized formula, modulated infant or pediatric formulas, human milk, and medical nutrition supplements. They adhere to food safety and sanitation regulations and standards established by regulating agencies and the health care facility. They perform inventory management, operate feeding preparation equipment, maintain competence in electronic documentation system and the bar-coded safety system, maintain sanitation in the feeding preparation room, perform quality improvement activities, complete temperature / sanitization records, and communicate information through various telecommunication modes.Education & Experience
High school diploma or GED and one of the following:
Six (6) months of experience working in a healthcare hospital tech (or equivalent) position.
Pharmacy technician registration with the Mississippi State Board of Pharmacy.
Pharmacy Tech certification with the Pharmacy Tech Certification board.
CPT Certification administered by the National HealthCareer Association

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to read, write, and perform necessary mathematical tasks acquired through a high school diploma. Must have the ability to pass a math competency test. Must demonstrate basic computer skills. Must be able to resolve problems and respond to simple written or verbal instructions. Must have interpersonal skills which are necessary to gather and share information with the multidisciplinary team in a courteous and professional manner.
Responsibilities:
Prepares feedings accurately according to established written formulations following pre-established feeding preparation procedures and adhering to quality control standards and aseptic technique.
Uses correct and accurate technique to measure powders and liquids.
Verifies new or questionable feeding orders with registered dietitian for accuracy and obtains standardized recipes as needed.
Uses clinical information system to obtain patient feeding orders and to print labels and production lists.
Maintains competence in computer/printer systems and Milk Lab equipment.
Stores prepared feedings properly until delivery to units.
Delivers prepared feedings properly to unit refrigerators.
Cleans and sanitizes work surfaces in the Milk Lab before and after each feeding preparation. Cleans utensils, equipment, and storage areas used in the Milk Lab.
Calculates new formulations or standardized recipes manually or with software and obtains verification of those formulations with registered dietitian.
