SW Montana Recreation Study Supervisor

Duties And Responsibilities The primary duties of this position will involve: Supervise four seasonal recreation assistants who will contact anglers to determine fishing pressure, catch and harvest statistics, and angler preferences as well as assisting with other means of quantifying overall recreational use on the five rivers (e.g., instantaneous user counts, intercept surveys, and other data collection). Assist with the duties of their staff when scheduling conflicts arise. Enter and manage data collected by the recreation assistants in coordination with Montana State University and Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks ( FWP ) staff. Off-season duties may entail angler interviews and instantaneous user counts as well as data management to help maximize efficiency of the graduate student research. As a non-law enforcement officer, applicants will need to communicate effectively with their supervisor or law enforcement when situations arise that need to involve additional staff or when their safety or other visitors' safety becomes a concern. Involvement with other aspects of the graduate research on these rivers (e.g., fish sampling) may be required. Applicants should expect to be knowledgeable and provide support to the public with interpretation of recreation rules and regulations, provide recreation information to the public, and answer the public's questions related to outdoor recreation in the area. Reporting to the Vice Provost, the Director of University Studies provides strategic vision, leadership, and administrative oversight for the University Studies program at Montana State University (MSU). This position champions academic exploration and student success, guiding students as they discover their academic and professional pathways. The Director oversees all aspects of University Studies-including academic programming, faculty and staff supervision, student persistence initiatives, and collaboration with academic and student success partners across campus. The Director ensures that these courses and programs are well-integrated, data-informed, and aligned with MSU's mission to foster exploration, engagement, and student achievement.
Duties and Responsibilities
Academic Oversight and Administration
Provide vision and leadership for all aspects of the University Studies program, championing exploration, academic engagement, and student success.
Oversee all University Studies course offerings, including instructor and course coordinator hiring, evaluation, scheduling, and approval of catalog edits.
Supervise, train, and evaluate staff, including the COMX 111US Course Coordinator, First-Year Seminar Director, Health Professions Advising (HPA) Director, Pre-Law Advisor, and Leadership Fellows Certificate Program Director.
Oversee the management of the Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Med Certificate and Leadership Fellows Certificate programs.
Coordinate the assessment of University Studies courses, programs, and certificates to ensure alignment with institutional learning outcomes and continuous improvement.
Manage the University Studies budget and ensure responsible stewardship of resources.
Represent University Studies to campus committees and external organizations, developing strong relationships with MSU's academic colleges, departments, and student support units.
Student Success and Persistence
Develop, lead, and assess student persistence initiatives and programming for University Studies, Pre-University Studies, and Pre-Med Intake majors.
Track student progress and success metrics related to persistence and retention.
Manage extraordinary student requests and appeals (e.g., CERC, GARC, suspension appeals).
Collaborate with partners in Student Success to design and deliver timely, impactful courses and programs that enhance student development and persistence.
Program Development and Collaboration
Identify and develop new opportunities for courses, academic programs, and co-curricular experiences that support MSU's mission and student success goals.
Develop, coordinate, and oversee major exploration events and programming in collaboration with the University Studies team.
Collaborate with Admissions on recruitment efforts for University Studies programs and participate in orientation and outreach activities for new and prospective students.
Coordinate advising services with the Advising Commons for University Studies, Pre-University Studies, and Pre-Med students, including orientation, preregistration, and drop-in advising.
Foster campus-wide collaboration and partnerships to advance University Studies initiatives and strengthen student pathways.

MSUN Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) is a statewide program of classes and support for veterans preparing to enroll in college or another training program. VUB administrative offices are located on the campus of MSUB and all program recordkeeping is performed and maintained at this location. This position will be located in Kalispell and will enhance the overall functioning of the department. The small VUB staff manages all program of services, and we are looking for a detail oriented, customer service-focused individual to join our team to provide student services to area students. This position has no supervisory responsibilities. This is a 9-month grant funded position with a flexible weekly schedule and no benefits package included.
Duties and Responsibilities
* Assist with program recruitment and provide application assistance to eligible veterans.
* Maintain accurate participant student files in the online Blumen student database.
* Assist with database entry and maintain confidential files.
* Conduct intake process with new participants, complete individualized education plans, and pretesting. Upon student completion, conduct exit interview and post testing.
* Provide college preparation and transition assistance to and maintain a caseload of approximately 80 veteran students in the western part of the state.
