The internships are an opportunity to gain hands-on experience by assisting in research projects, engaging in literature reviews, data collection, data analysis, reporting, and potentially contributing to conference presentations and/or publications. The Intern Research Associate program at the AOA is for those currently enrolled in a Master's or PhD program in fields such as psychometrics, measurement, statistics, l/O psychology, or data science. This fully remote 10-week internship beginning June 2026 involves working closely with experienced psychometricians and assessment experts. Interns will gain hands-on experience with AOA data and research projects that support the organization's mission of advancing the distinctive philosophy and practice of osteopathic medicine. The Certifying Board Services (CBS) department serves 73 certification and certificate programs across 15 specialty certifying boards. Interns will work and collaborate with the psychometric and assessment teams of the CBS department to support the AOA's research agenda. The role provides an opportunity to support operational and research initiatives and offers practical experience in certification testing. Research topics may include exam design and development, administration and supportive validity studies for our certification and osteopathic continuing certification exams. Responsibilities Interns will work closely with the psychometric and assessment teams to develop a research plan for the internship. Over the 10 weeks, interns will attend weekly meetings with their supervisor to discuss progress and address questions, and with one or more research project teams to discuss ongoing work. Activities may include conducting and writing literature reviews, data gathering/cleaning, programming in R or Python, item and exam analyses with CTT and IRT, performing statistical analyses such as DIF or regression analysis, writing reports, and delivering presentations. At the conclusion of the internship, all files and equipment will be returned to the AOA. The goal is to support parent- and provider-driven policies and programs that equitably and effectively serve families, providers, and young children. RAPID is now implemented in community, state, and national contexts, working in partnership with local and state organizations. The RAPID datasets are extensive and quickly growing, and include both quantitative and qualitative data. This position will include online survey administration, data processing and cleaning, and overall study administration activities on a fast-paced schedule. All members of the study team will play an integral role in providing timely and important data on the experiences of families with young children. This Research Coordinator will work collaboratively with RAPID's Project Leads and research team to incorporate new measures into the online survey instruments, administer the monthly surveys and collect data, and prepare those data for analysis. The Research Coordinator will maintain standardized documentation and follow all data cleaning and data management processes as outlined in the team's Manual of Procedures. The Research Study Coordinator is expected to work in-person at study sites without a regular work from home schedule. The position will also require some evening hours (e.g., 11 AM - 7 PM) and weekend shifts to maximize retention efforts for study participants who are unavailable during the regular workday. Job Summary: Position Description The Institute for Innovations in Developmental Sciences (DevSci) at Northwestern is seeking an individual with expertise in child psychology (or related fields) and experience with study coordination. The Research Study Coordinator Senior will primarily support the national HEALthy Brain & Child Development Study (HBCD) (PIs Elizabeth Norton & Laurie Wakschlag, Scientific Project Director Renee Edwards). The HBCD study aims to examine the impact of prenatal substance exposure and other prenatal adversities and protective factors on infant brain and behavioral development. This individual will coordinate maternal and child assessments for this longitudinal study and will conduct direct child and family assessments, including infant/child behavioral and cognitive standardized assessments, mother-child interaction protocols, and mother and family interviews. Additionally, this individual will assist with child MRI scans to ensure the comfort and safety of families. The Research Study Coordinator Senior position requires a combination of both clinical expertise as well as strong administrative and organizational skills and is best suited for a highly motivated individual. The coordinator will assist the manager in monitoring study performance, assist in development and implementation of new protocols, and ensure that all processes, protocols and procedures are quality controlled and function up to standards. Our three interacting missions are to investigate the causes and clinical characteristics of neurodegenerative diseases, to ensure that our patients are the beneficiaries of the latest advances, and to explore the neural foundations of behavior and cognition in health and disease.
