The University of North Carolina at Pembroke, School of Education seeks a qualified candidate for a tenure-track professional school counseling faculty position in the Department of Counseling.
The successful candidate will teach core and specialty graduate-level counseling courses in the Department of Counseling. Classes are held in the evenings and offered in hybrid and online formats. Additional responsibilities include student advising and mentoring, serving on program, department, and university committees, service to the community, service to the profession, and scholarly activity.
The Department offers two CACREP-accredited graduate degrees in counseling: Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Professional School Counseling. The Department includes an active, dynamic faculty and serves an engaged student population from varied backgrounds.

The North Carolina Botanical Garden (NCBG) has been a leader in native plant conservation, horticulture, and education in the southeastern United States for almost 60 years. As part of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, we further the University's tripartite teaching, research, and public service mission through our own mission to cultivate connections between plants, people, and place through science, engagement, and conservation. Through its Plant Biodiversity Research Program, the Garden manages the UNC-CH Herbarium, the largest collection of southeastern plant specimens in the United States (approximately 800,000 specimens dating back into the early 1800s). This collection is a primary resource for Southeastern U.S. plant and fungi systematics, description, identification, geographic distribution, and conservation, as well as an important worldwide resource on plant fossils and marine red algae. Collection of data and plant information tools such as floras, field guides, apps, websites are developed and serve researchers, government agencies, conservation organizations, educators, and the public. The North Carolina Botanical Garden (NCBG) and Department of Biology (BIOL) have a long history of collaboration going back to the Garden's origin in 1966 within the Department and continuing into the present day.
The Department of Biology at UNC-Chapel Hill is dedicated to the discovery and dissemination of new and existing knowledge in the broad discipline of Biology by maintaining a high-quality faculty who integrate cutting-edge research and student-focused teaching. We are one of the largest academic departments in the College of Arts and Sciences. We have over 3,450 majors and we enroll undergraduate students in over 7,870 seats in our classes each semester. Each fall or spring semester, we offer 52 classes (70 sections) and 13 lab courses (93 sections). Our average total annual expenditure exceeds $24 million, with nearly half of that coming from grant sponsored research. Our department has nearly $70 million in active grants to support our twin missions of research and teaching. Our large research base spans many areas of biology and supports several outstanding graduate programs. We consist of 50 tenure/tenure-track faculty, 13 teaching faculty, 5 research faculty, and numerous active adjunct and emeritus faculty who are engaged in basic and interdisciplinary research and teaching, both within the department and between other departments and schools at UNC. Position Summary
This is a research, teaching, and public service position at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, serving jointly as Herbarium Director at the North Carolina Botanical Garden (NCBG) and as Associate Professor within the Department of Biology (BIOL). As such, the position will seamlessly integrate between NCBG and BIOL and further the purpose and mission of both entities.
As Herbarium Director, we seek a dynamic leader responsible for the overall management and leadership of the Herbarium. Duties to the Herbarium and NCBG include authenticating and approving plant material added to the collection; supervising staff, graduate students, undergraduates, and volunteers; developing and implementing program plans and budgets; and providing strategic vision for NCBG, including contributing to the Garden's Plant Biodiversity Research Program. In 2022, UNC Chapel Hill launched the School of Data Science and Society (SDSS), a new school devoted to data science teaching, research, scholarship, service, and creativity. Position Summary
The School of Data Science and Society (SDSS) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications for a Teaching Assistant Professor position to support its growing academic programs. We seek candidates with a doctoral degree in data science or a related field and a strong commitment to excellence in pedagogy for data science.
Given the interdisciplinary nature of the school and the broad interpretations of data science, we encourage applications from any substantive area that contributes to the mission, vision and values of SDSS. Applicants having prior experience teaching college-level introductory classes on foundations of data science are especially encouraged to apply. In addition to teaching, successful applicants will demonstrate the ability to advise and mentor the school's growing undergraduate population.
This position will be expected to dedicate 70-80% of time to teaching data science courses, 0-10% on pedagogical research, and 20% of the effort in service to the School. This position will be encouraged to participate in prioritized research activities on pedagogical techniques and technologies, data science academic trends and topics, and contribute to the school's efforts to expand its data science course offerings, including a new AI minor which is in development for launch in Fall 2026.
This position will be a 9-month appointment with the opportunity to teach in summer based on needs in the undergraduate program. The instructional load for this position will be 3 courses per semester for 6 courses taught each academic year. This is a permanent fixed-term position. The position will have an initial appointment of 3 years with the possibility of reappointment and a pathway for advancement in rank. The courses taught by the candidate may include a mix of introductory and advanced ones with a priority to cover the introductory level courses. Advanced courses will be selected from a range of thematic areas that match the faculty's expertise. Teaching assistants will provide support to large-format courses through homework grading and tutorial sessions. Sample courses include DATA110: Introduction to Data Science, DATA 117: AI Unlocked for Curious Minds, DATA120: Ethics of AI and Societal Decision Making, DATA130: Critical Data Literacy, DATA 140: Introduction to Data Structures and Management, and DATA150: Communication for Data Scientists.
