Position Summary We are seeking a motivated Research Assistant (RA) to support in-clinic DD screening efforts. The RA will work onsite at the UNC Hospitals Outpatient Eastowne Endocrinology Clinic, collaborating with our research team, clinic staff, and care providers to implement tablet-based diabetes distress screening. Responsibilities will include assisting patients with screening procedures, helping refine and optimize screening workflows, and conducting interviews with key stakeholders to identify opportunities for improvement. This person will work part-time (~15 hours/week) for a minimum of 6-months with our team. Assessing and addressing elevated diabetes distress (DD) is now recommended by the American Diabetes Association Standards of Care. Despite this, clinic-based screening programs remain limited, resulting in many individuals living with undetected and untreated DD. Our team has developed innovative infrastructure to integrate routine DD screening into diabetes care at UNC. In collaboration with the School of Medicine, UNC Health, and the UNC Endocrinology Clinic, we incorporated a validated DD screening instrument into EPIC that can be completed either online before a visit or in the clinic using a tablet. Screening results are automatically integrated into the patient's medical record alongside routine laboratory data. The facility features 6 labor and delivery suites with private bathrooms, a dedicated cesarean section suite with a spacious recovery room, 16 soothing mother-baby post-partum rooms with private bathrooms and ample space for family and friends and a large, innovative Special Care Nursery. The Special Care Nursery is comprised of twelve individual rooms for infant patients that include sleeping accommodations, private bathrooms, and hot meals for family members who are encouraged to stay with their babies. The unit is designed to care for the intermediate neonate, stable growing premature infant and readmitted infants < 30 days old. The SCN provides such care as: oxygen therapy, continuous monitoring, IV therapy, phototherapy, antibiotics, and OG/NG feedings. Monitoring capabilities include: central cardiac/respiratory monitoring, apnea/bradycardia monitoring, pulse oximetry, blood pressure, glucose and thermoregulation. Administrative-Specific Responsibilities Include: * Collaborates with the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs (SADAA), other administrators, and faculty to provide strategic vision, leadership, planning and on-going evaluation of the pre-licensure programs in alignment with the SON Academic Evaluation Plan. * In collaboration with SADAA, Division Chairs, and other Assistant Deans, assigns faculty members to teach course sections. * Reviews course and instructor evaluations for prelicensure courses and develops improvement plans to ensure program quality and optimal outcomes. * In collaboration with the Academic Affairs Council, Baccalaureate Executive Committee, and pre-licensure program directors, coordinates systems for managing the prelicensure programs course offerings, review of new proposals, class schedules, student advising, and standardized examinations. Responsible for the appointment and evaluation of Program Directors to align with existing job descriptions. Mentorship of Program Directors and delegation of duties to support leadership development and workload balance. * Represents the Prelicensure Programs with internal and external communities of interest, including the North Carolina Board of Nursing. * Works with key participants in the prelicensure program to resolve faculty issues. * Leads one meeting per month of the prelicensure affiliated faculty. * In collaboration with the Clinical Support Division, ensures faculty are compliant with clinical requirements in external agencies. * Approves and monitors the prelicensure program of study and honors projects. * Serves as the administrative liaison to the Baccalaureate Executive Committee (BEC) and facilitates implementation of BEC decisions. * Works with the Office of Student Affairs to facilitate efforts to secure grant funding for student scholarships, student support, and program enhancements * Collaborates with the Office of Student Affairs to facilitate prelicensure student recruitment, admissions, progression, graduation, and financial aid programs. * Coordinates the collection and analysis of data used by BEC to evaluate the quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of the pre-licensure program and ensures that the policies and standards of the School of Nursing, the University, the North Carolina Board of Nursing and accrediting agencies are met. * Manages, evaluates, and seeks continuous improvement of the process of clinical site coordination for prelicensure student placements. * With input from the program directors, evaluates performance of prelicensure part-time faculty and assures accountability in faculty's fulfillment of their academic responsibilities in teaching. * Provides input on teaching needs of the School for use by search committees. * Leads recruitment efforts for part-time, clinical track appointments for prelicensure program faculty. * Serves as program director with the North Carolina Board of Nursing to ensure compliance with 21 NCAC 36 .0318 requirement, certify students for eligibility to write the NCLEX-RN examination and to provide data needed for annual and periodic reports. * Represents the School of Nursing as Director of Undergraduate Studies, including participating in Directors meetings and annual updating of the Undergraduate Catalog. * Provides leadership and mentoring for succession planning. * Accountable for recruitment, hiring, management and performance evaluation of program support staff, including the prelicensure program manager and nurse specialists. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Doctoral degree in nursing required. Eligibility for RN license in North Carolina; at least 2 years of clinical experience. Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Certified Nurse Educator, with expertise in curriculum and curricular evaluation. The primary function of this position is ensuring the exhibit is up and running smoothly throughout the run of the event. The rate of pay is $16 per hour. This temporary seasonal role is responsible for ensuring that the trains are running smoothly and equipment is functioning properly. The Assistant will operation the site music, maintain the exhibit per show design requirements and will also provide a guest services role by engaging with guests. This positions requires standing for long periods of time and working outside. At least one paid required training session at the railroad and required orientation will be held prior to the event opening. Including rehearsal evenings, Winter Lights will run from November 15 through January 4 and the work hours are 5:00 to 10:30 p.m. nightly. Holiday availability is required. Duties will include: * Making sure the tracks are clear of any debris before running the trains. * Starting up the trains for the opening of Winter Lights each night. * Ensuring the trains run smoothly (attending to any derailments or issues with the trains). * Ensuring that the trains have adequate batteries and supplies to keep the show running throughout the Winter Lights event. * Working with Rocky Cove Railroad volunteers to help run the trains. In case a volunteer is unable to work the event, the RCCR assistant will be in charge of running the trains. * Stopping the trains at the end of each night worked and placing them safely away in the depot.
