1883

University of North Dakota, public, coeducational institution of higher learning in Grand Forks, North Dakota, United States The University of North Dakota was established in 1883, and instruction began a year later.

UND was founded in 1883, six years before North Dakota became a state.

1914

The first doctorate was awarded in 1914.

1918

In 1918, UND was the country's hardest-hit single institution by the flu epidemic that killed 1,400 people in North Dakota alone.

Olson, who spent 44 years with Bell companies, began with a summer job cleaning silt out of telephone manholes and later served as an apprentice cable splicer before earning a degree in commerce in 1950 from the University of North Dakota.

Approved 1981 17 NDSU: Ph.D in Engineering.

1983

Approved 1983 35 NDSU New Program: BS in Petroleum Engineering.

1984

In 1984 Olson was named chairman and chief executive officer of AT&T Technologies, and the following year he became president and chief operating officer.

1987

Approved 1987 6 DSU Associate of Arts Degree.

Approved 1987 7 UND Master of Science degree in Space Studies.
