Selected in 2019 as the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Chief Financial Officer at the University of North Texas System, he oversees an annual budget of over $1.3 billion across 3 major universities with 44,000+ students. He also manages complex multi-locational operations for budgeting, accounting, investments, shared services, procurement and the historically underutilized business program. Previously, Mr. Tenney served as the Associate Administrator for Mission Support at the National Aeronautics & Space Administration (NASA) where he was responsible for institutional and business functions with annual budget of over $3 billion, 15,000 employees and 5,000 facilities. In that role he integrated major operations across 14 different states and restructured activities to a more interdependent operating model saving hundreds of millions of dollars. Prior to that, he served as the Deputy Associate Administrator for Mission Support where he led a major restructuring initiative that established more efficient operations across NASA. Prior to that, he served as the Chief Financial Officer at the NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, VA where he oversaw planning, budgeting, program analysis, and accounting activities for a national research laboratory with assets valued at approximately $3.5 billion. During the shuttle era, he served as the Director of the Management and Technical Support Office where he led diverse operations, directed integrated business activities across ten field centers, and enabled solution-driven results for the highest risks challenges at NASA. In 2003, Mr. Tenney led NASA to become the first Federal Agency to implement full cost operations. He also served in numerous other key leadership roles for NASA, including Center Deputy CFO for Finance, Center Deputy CFO for Systems, and Chief Strategist. Mr. Tenney earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Christopher Newport University and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Averett University. He also completed the Senior Executive Fellows Program at Harvard University. He is a recipient of the Presidential Rank Award, the Outstanding Leadership Medal and numerous other awards.
