This position is endowed through the David W. Wilson Endowment for Integrity and Excellence in the Wilson College of Business, with the specific purpose to expand ethics education across the campus, and the successful candidate will be a Wilson Ethics Fellow. The position has a 4/4 teaching load. The Wilson Fellow will teach "Religion and Ethics" and other Applied Ethics courses, and also will have the opportunity to teach other courses in their field of study depending on the candidate's qualifications as well as departmental needs. The Department of Philosophy and World Religions currently offers Applied Ethics courses in Technology Ethics, Business Ethics, Environmental Ethics, Bio-Medical Ethics, and Sexual Ethics. The department is interested in candidates who will share the department's commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching, and to engaged service (mentoring students, serving on committees, and offering programming on campus and in the wider community). The successful candidate will work collaboratively with UNI's Wilson College of Business within the context of its new ethics education initiatives. Job Description: The University of Northern Iowa's Department of Elementary and Middle Level Education seeks applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Elementary and Middle Level Education, starting in August 2026. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate (MAE and Ed.D.) courses in a field-based teacher preparation program for elementary and middle-level teachers; engaging in scholarship and publication; participating in department/university initiatives; developing curriculum and engaging in innovative practice; contributing to a collegial team environment; advising graduate students; and serving on master's/doctoral-level committees. UNI's Elementary and Middle-Level faculty work and publish collaboratively and offer innovative doctoral, master's, and undergraduate educational programs. The department provides formats that include face-to-face campus-based instruction, professional development school (PDS)- based instruction, and online synchronous and asynchronous instruction to extend access to programs to students across Iowa, the US, and internationally. The department supports partnerships with community colleges to transition students beginning their degree at the high school and community college and finishing at UNI. The department offers a paraeducator-to-teacher apprenticeship program leading to elementary and special education licensure in partnership with Iowa school districts. Fall 2025 marks the implementation of an updated educator preparation program, which launches after two years of campus-wide study and innovation. Required Qualifications: Earned doctorate in Elementary Education, Middle-Level Education, or a closely related field; well-developed ease and curiosity with digital communications, teaching tools and resources, and online and face-to-face methods of instruction; excellent interpersonal skills, including collaborating as a team; experience developing research agenda and potential for scholarly productivity; at least three years of experience teaching as a licensed educator at the elementary and/or middle level (K-8); and background and experience in science or social studies education at the elementary and middle school levels required. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with the successful design/delivery of online and face-to-face undergraduate/graduate instruction and experiences targeting traditional and non-traditional university students; and experience with Professional Development School models for teacher preparation preferred.
