May include calling for medical assistance or assisting police officers in controlling an emergency situation. * Assists with emptying parking meters and pay stations. * May take statements from the public for purposes of police investigation. * Operates communications equipment, including telephone and two-way radio. Regular contact by telephone or in person with other departments or the public. * May serve as dispatcher, operating radio system and gate access control systems. * May perform clerical functions as assigned, to include but not limited to maintaining records, indexes and files, and computer data entry. * Assists other departmental work units during slack periods. * Uses established safety practices to protect health and safety of personnel and property. * Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position. We are seeking an experienced Staff Accountant to join the Financial Accounting Services (FAS) team at Oklahoma City University who has an attention to detail, a strong communicator, excellent work-ethic, is well-organized, can work both independently and on a team, and has the ability to adapt to new situations. The incumbent in this position will spend the majority of working time on campus, however, there may be opportunities to work remotely on occasion after a reasonable period to demonstrate successful job performance to support work-life balance flexibility. Remote work days are approved by department leadership on a case by case basis. What will you work on? You will be responsible providing accounting services as part of OCU's overall financial operations and function including general ledger accounting, receivables and cash receipts processing, bank account monitoring, gift and pledge transaction processing and tracking, classifying transactions, account reconciliations, budget and fund transfers, journal voucher processing and posting, general data entry and maintenance in the primary ERP and Accounting database (i.e. Banner), account analysis and research, as well as other financial accounting activities. Further, you will participate in month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes with the rest of the FAS team. Other ad hoc tasks and special projects should be expected, as assigned by your direct supervisor and Department management. Who will you work with? The Staff Accountant is part of within the FAS team and works closely with all of its members. The FAS team is led by the Controller and further consists of other Accounting and Finance staff, including the Accounts Payable team. You'll report to the Assistant Controller, who is your direct supervisor. You will also work closely with the Advancement Department as part of your duties related to gift and pledge transactions. FAS interacts with all areas of OCU and serves as to support the University in its overall financial operations and functions. Your background and qualifications? An associate's degree in accounting, bookkeeping, or a related field is required at minimum. Other college or professional education may be acceptable, depending on its nature and relevance. Experience in the Higher Education or Non-Profit industries is a plus, but not a requirement. You're required to have a minimum of 2 year's accounting or Bookkeeping experience that demonstrates a strong competency the basics of these fields and administrative work. A suitable combination of education and experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or other related fields may be substituted in certain circumstances for the above minimum qualifications. The knowledge, skills, and abilities needed for success in this role?
