The University of Rochester is a major research university with a long history of clinical and laboratory investigations. Rochester is located on the southern shore of Lake Ontario, just north of the breathtaking Finger Lakes region, and boasts affordable living, highly-ranked public schools, outstanding cultural amenities, and a vibrant metropolitan area. UR Medicine's Division of Breastfeeding & Lactation Medicine is one of the leading programs in the world. Breastfeeding & Lactation Medicine providers leverage their medical training to address complex problems facing lactating parents and their children. We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate advanced interest in providing advanced lactation care to complex patients. Your duties as a faculty member may include a combination of patient care, teaching, independent or sponsored research, administrative duties, community outreach, and University related public service. This faculty member will be responsible for seeing patients for consults in the inpatient and outpatient areas, answering management calls through the world-renowned Lactation Study Center, and collaborating with other lactation medicine colleagues and lactation consultants. The clinician will be expected to organize and participate in breastfeeding and lactation teaching for medical and nursing students, residents, faculty and staff. They may also choose to be an active part of the Lactation Research Consortium at the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) and seek funding to support their research efforts. Job responsibilities will include: 1. Lactation Medicine Services a. Inpatient consults b. Outpatient and telemedicine visits in conjunction with lactation consultants, or alone c. Consult as needed anywhere in the URMC hospital/clinic network d. Answering questions through the Lactation Study Center and Mother To Baby, as they arise e. Night and weekend remote call (shared between 5 providers) 2. Education a. Develop and manage approach to learner education in BFLM across all learner categories b. Regular education duties: i. Each faculty member is expected to be involved in the training of lactation consultants, nurses, nurse practitioner or PA students, staff, etc... ii. Be available for ongoing education of nursing and other staff, as needed 3. Research, Advocacy, or Administrative time a. Faculty may engage with other breastfeeding and lactation projects through the NICU, the BFLM Research Director, or the Lactation Research Consortium b. Faculty should seek funding to support their research 4. Quality Improvement (QI) a. Each faculty member is expected to collaborate on at least 1 QI initiative to support breastfeeding i. Ensuring the delivery of evidence-based care in all of our facilities ii. Optimizing the continuity of experience between preconception, prenatal, hospital, postpartum and pediatric care 5. Representative a. Each faculty member is expected to be involved in community representation for Breastfeeding and Lactation Medicine, including attendance for at least one community event and one routine, ongoing meeting with community members b. Work, as needed, with the community to support breastfeeding efforts in the Greater Rochester Area 6. Data, Overview and Oversight: a. Have an up to date understanding of breastfeeding statistics at University of Rochester Medical Center sites and affiliates **Qualifications** Minimum requirements: · MD/DO · Training and experience in medical management of complex breastfeeding and lactation problems Preferred: · Fellowship-training in Breastfeeding and Lactation Medicine · FABM · NABBLM-C or IBCLC Successful candidates will have shown outstanding promise and commitment to maternal, neonatal, and family care during breastfeeding and lactation. Candidates must have an advanced medical degree after residency such as MD, DO, DNP, or be a practicing CNM or NP with a Masters in Nursing with experience in either Family Medicine, Pediatrics, OBGYN, Preventative Medicine or Internal Medicine. NYS Provider license, DEA required. IBCLC or NABBLM-C preferred. Additional training or CME as a provider to lactating parents/mothers and/or infants is desirable. Candidates should show excellence in mother/parent/infant histories and physical exams, development of differential diagnosis, care plans, care of families in the postpartum period, motivational interviewing and care of the patient in a sociodemographic context. Highland Hospital delivers approximately 2500 babies per year and has a lower Cesarean rate than the NY state and national average. Our longstanding Surgical Obstetrics fellowship has expanded from 2 to 4 fellows per year with a new emphasis on training physicians for rural practice funded by our recent HRSA grant. The responsibilities of this position will include inpatient and outpatient obstetrical management; newborn care; and teaching of fellows, residents, and medical students. Candidates with surgical fellowship training are encouraged and eligible for surgical privileges though this is not required. Proficiency in performing and analyzing pulmonary function testing, oximetry, and capnography as needed. Demonstrates a working knowledge of homecare ventilators, CPAP, Bipap, suction equipment, and apnea monitors. Minimum of one year of respiratory experience preferred. NYS license as a Registered Respiratory Therapist. Qualifications New York State license as a Registered Respiratory Therapist with current registrations with at least one-year experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist.
