University of St. Thomas company history timeline

1947

The first classes at UST began on September 22, 1947, with 57 freshmen and 8 faculty members.

1950

Our campus chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the national honor society in history, began in 1950.

1951

UST graduated its first class on May 31, 1951.

1961

St Thomas University was founded in 1961 as Biscayne College by the order of the Augustinian Friars.

1968

The college was accepted as a member of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and first accredited by the Commission on Colleges in 1968.

1977

St Thomas became coeducational in the fall of 1977, enrolling its first 211 women undergraduates.

1984

Through continued growth and development, Biscayne College earned university status in 1984 after the addition of 10 Master degree programs and the opening of the School of Law.

2003

Former university president J. Michael Miller, C.S.B. was appointed on November 25, 2003, by the pope to preside as secretary of the Congregation of Catholic Education.

2020
