The HVAC Assistant Controls Technician conducts, assists, and participates in the inspection and troubleshooting during the startup and operation of HVAC systems. The position is specifically related to digital controls systems including programming, commissioning, networking and graphical interfaces. Minimum: Typically requires high school diploma and four years of relevant experience working with facility level HVAC systems; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Preferred: An associate's degree, vocational or technical training in HVAC operations or comparable training field; five years' experience working with facility level HVAC systems; and experience in an institutional setting utilizing built-up HVAC systems is preferred. Primary Duties and Responsibilities • Perform preventative maintenance tasks on various pieces of HVAC equipment (air handlers, fan coil units, heat pumps, hydronic pumps, exhaust fans, modular boilers, air-cooled chillers, etc.) • Change filters on HVAC equipment • Lubricate moving parts of HVAC equipment • Check general operation of HVAC equipment • Take temperature and pressure readings in hydronic systems (chilled water and heating water) • Take temperature readings in air ducts, at discharge grilles, and in open spaces. • Assist HVAC technicians with troubleshooting and repair of HVAC equipment. • Document equipment data utilizing computerized work management system. • Must wear proper PPE (safety shoes, hearing and eye protection) as required. • Perform other duties as assigned. Under supervision, the HVAC Specialist II is responsible for installing, repairing, maintaining, overhauling, cleaning, and servicing basic refrigeration and air conditioning equipment. This role supports the Air Conditioning Foreman and mechanics in performing assigned duties, assists in evaluating the needs of each HVAC system, and provides support to other areas of Facilities Services as requested. Responsibilities Install, repair, maintain, overhaul, clean, and service basic refrigeration and air conditioning equipment. Assist Air Conditioning Foreman and mechanics with the installation and maintenance of HVAC systems. Assist in evaluating HVAC systems to ensure critical heating and cooling systems are operational on campus. Monitor HVAC systems for deficiencies and take corrective actions as directed. Report job information to supervision, including details of repairs, deficiencies found, and parts or materials needed for resolution.
