The Medical Center PICU is in the state-of-the-art Lester and Sue Smith Legacy Tower. The instructor will work alongside Faculty colleagues, critical care physician fellows, advanced practice providers, consultants and pediatric residents in the care of children with chronic and acute illness requiring intensive care in the PICU and TICU.
Job Purpose
Provides advanced nursing care to patients in a clinical setting in an area of specialization under the direction of a physician.
Job Duties
Obtain detailed history and perform physical examinations.
Perform, order, and interpret diagnostic studies in accordance with relevant health concerns of the patient.

Reporting to the Program Director of the PhysicianAssistant Program, the Non-Tenure Track Open Rank Clinical Principal Faculty will play a critical role in the foundational development implementation, ongoing management, and continuous assessment and improvement of the PA Program, working closely with the Program Director to ensure academic excellence, compliance with ARC-PA standards, and the successful preparation of future physicianassistants through teaching, advisement, mentoring, and program committee and university service. This is a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure track faculty appointment.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with the Program Director and other faculty to develop and implement the program's mission, goals, and competencies.
Assist in the creation and revision of pre-clinical and clinical curricula in accordance with ARC-PA standards.
Participate in all aspects of the ARC-PA accreditation process, including preparing self-studies and participating in site visits.
Develop and deliver course content and lectures during all phases of the program
Coordinate and teach pre-clinical and/or clinical courses as assigned.
Provide academic counseling, advising and mentorship to PA students.
Evaluate student performance through examinations, assignments, and practical skills assessments (e.g., OSCEs).
Actively participate in the admissions process, including applicant reviews and interviews.
Serve on program, departmental, college, and university committees.
Engage in scholarly activities, such as research, presentations, and publications.
Maintain active clinical practice (if applicable and desired) to stay current with healthcare trends and clinical competencies.
Promote the PA program and profession within the community and with other medical and academic professionals.
Maintain current NCCPA certification and Georgia licensure.
Adhere to all Georgia Southern University policies and procedures and ARC-PA accreditation standards.
Required Qualifications
Master's degree from an ARC-PA accredited PhysicianAssistant program.
Current NCCPA certification.
Eligibility for licensure as a PhysicianAssistant in the State of Georgia.
Minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience as a practicing PhysicianAssistant.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.
Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.
Terminal degree required for appointment at Clinical Assistant Professor rank.
Terminal degree plus a minimum of 5 years full-time college/university teaching experience at the assistant professor level is required for the rank of Clinical Associate Professor along with a strong record of research and service with publications and presentations in professional venues.
Terminal degree plus a minimum of 5 years full-time college/university teaching experience at the Clinical Associate Professor level is required for the rank of Clinical Professor along with a strong record of research and service with substantial publications and presentations in professional venues.
Preferred Qualifications
Doctoral degree (e.g., DMSc, EdD, PhD, DHA, DHSc).
Two (2) years of experience in PA education, with demonstrable experience in curriculum development, teaching, and/or administration within an ARC-PA accredited program. Prior experience as an Associate Program Director, Director of Clinical Education, Academic Coordinator, or similar leadership role within an ARC-PA accredited PA program.
Experience with ARC-PA accreditation processes, including self-studies and site visits.
Evidence of scholarly activity (e.g., presentations, publications, grants).
Experience with live and on-demand education technologies and methodologies.

This individual is expected to demonstrate effectiveness in course design, delivery, and evaluation, and plays a critical role in supporting students to achieve the program's student learning outcomes and the competencies required for PA practice.
Under the guidance of the program leadership, the Principal Faculty member contributes to curriculum development, program assessment, and continuous quality improvement in accordance with the ARC-PA Accreditation Standards. This role includes active participation in program planning, student advising, academic support, and other activities that foster student and programmatic success. The Principal Faculty member holds a faculty appointment (rank commensurate with experience) within the PhysicianAssistant Program.
In fulfilling the responsibilities of this role, the incumbent is expected to uphold and promote the philosophy of South University, which emphasizes quality services to students and stakeholders; development, engagement, and recognition of employees; sound economic and operational principles; and an environment that fosters innovation, positive thinking and institutional growth. KEY JOB ELEMENTS:
Provides teaching and instruction in the PA program including:
Coordination and instruction of courses as assigned based on program needs.
Teaching in areas of clinical and/or professional expertise.
Serving as a small group facilitator and student faculty advisor.
Assists the Director of Didactic Education in the administrative coordination of the didactic phase of the program.
Assists the Director of Clinical Education in the administrative coordination of the clinical phase of the program.

Knowledge:

Eligibility for professional licensure/certification in the applicable state and healthcare discipline (if applicable) or holds an active, valid, and unencumbered state license.
1-2 years teaching experience in a graduate health-related profession highly preferred.
