Min Qualifications: Graduation from an approved school of Respiratory Therapy with a Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Care or other healthcare-related specialty and three (3) years of experience in respiratory care, to include at least two (2) years of critical care experience or Graduation from an approved school of Respiratory Therapy and five (5) years related experience, to include at least three (3) years of recent critical care experience. Must be a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) and maintain credentials with the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) as well as licensure as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) with the Texas Department of State Health Services. Must have one (1) specialty credential (i.e. RRT-ACCS, NPS, RPFT, RPSGT, LNFA) or obtain within six (6) months of becoming a Senior Respiratory Therapist. Must maintain specialty credential while classified as a Senior Respiratory Therapist. Must have current BLS and ACLS.
Job Description:
Possesses experience and is highly knowledgeable and skilled in respiratory care and assessment. Provides competent basic and specialty care utilizing an interdisciplinary approach and individualizing care to meet unique patient needs. Able to manage unexpected emergency situations effectively. Serves as preceptor for new employees and respiratory care students.
Specific Job Related Duties:
* Assesses the respiratory care needs of patients.
* Utilizing experience and skills to identify and review patient diagnosis/patient care needs, and contraindications and possible complications of patients of performing pulmonary function testing.
* Proficient in pulmonary function testing including but not limited to spirometry, lung volumes, diffusion, arterial blood gases, cardiopulmonary exercising testing, six-minute walks, respiratory pressures, bronchoprovocation, impedance oscillometry, pentamidine treatments, exercise-induce bronchospasm, and bronchoscopy per department policies.
* Manages unexpected emergency situations effectively.
* Proficient in analyzer maintenance, calibrations, quality control, CAP surveys and participates in CAP inspection and preparations.
* Works independently with minimal supervision, and part of department team.
* Participates in department meetings, audits, trainings, quality management, inventory control and policy/procedure updates.
* Demonstrates initiative and accepts continual learning environment and constructive feedback.
* Serves as preceptor for new employees and respiratory care students in multi-disciplinary team.
* Proficient in Bronchoscopy and Interventional Pulmonary services including but not limited to bronchoscopy assistance, scheduling, orientation, scope maintenance, equipment proficiency, and documentation.
* Proficient in time management, and able to flex schedule required for patient care.
* Adheres to assigned work schedule, annual training requirements, internal controls, UTMB Institutional policies, and other job duties as assigned.

Responsible for performing and administering basic and advanced therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, including arterial blood gases to patients with respiratory disorders. May also perform pulmonary function testing. Participates and leads advanced patient education, and is actively involved in departmental quality program.
Position Key Accountabilities:
* Takes and follows verbal treatment orders from physicians in administering drugs and medications to the cardiopulmonary system of patients. Evaluates treatment program, results and takes appropriate action.
* Performs independently all the following: arterial blood punctures, spirometry and flow volume loop testing, lung volume testing by body plethysmography or He dilution, airways resistance measurements, single breath diffusion capacity, bronchoprovocation testing and administers bronchodilator medications.
* Assists with any combination of the following tests and procedures: exercise testing, indirect calorimetry testing, and regional ventilation perfusion studies, and the technical function of video, fiberoptic, and laser procedures.
* Troubleshoots, maintains, calibrates and performs quality control on equipment in the laboratories. Manually sets up and maintains respiratory care equipment. Manages compliance logs and manuals for equipment and oxygen tanks. Performs 6-minute walk test.
5. Manually administers care to include oxygen, aerosol therapy, incentive spirometry, IPPB, Intrapulmonary Percussive Ventilation (IPV), airway care, aerosolized medication, percussion, postural drainage, pulse oximetry and visual monitoring of patients on continuous ventilation
* Communicates effectively with professional colleagues. Manages time effectively. Documents appropriately in the medical records and completes other documentation duties accurately and efficiently according to policies and procedures.
* Remain current in respiratory care through continuing education, participation in in-service training, and review of journals. Conducts inter and intradepartmental respiratory care in-services at least once a year to patients, staff, or to the community.
* Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; Performs procedures, Adhere to standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
* Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization.

Certification/Skills:
* Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by The National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) required
* Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) by Texas Medical Board (TMB) required

Dual Credentialed Registered Polysomnography Sleep Technologist (RPSGT)/ Registered Respiratory Therapist is an integral part of the sleep center diagnostic, therapeutic and longitudinal sleep health program. They work collaboratively with our sleep providers, patients and families to improve and maintain ideal sleep health. The goal of the dual credentialed Registered Polysomnographic Sleep Technologist/ Registered Respiratory Therapist is to perform with a high degree of competency in all clinical aspects of sleep health and all aspects of respiratory care for the following age groups (adult and geriatric). Respiratory therapy includes the application and monitoring of medical gases (excluding anesthetic gases) and environmental control systems, mechanical ventilatory support, artificial airway care, bronchopulmonary hygiene, pharmacologic agents related to respiratory care procedures, and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation related and limited to respiratory care. Utilizes the application of scientific principles for the identification, prevention, remediation, research, and rehabilitation of acute or chronic cardiopulmonary dysfunction. The applicable aspects of sleep health are the following testing modalities; diagnostic, titration and home apnea sleep testing including Split night studies, Bipap ST, AVAPS and IVAPS studies for non - ventilator dependent patients. The RPSGT uses the most current version of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine Clinical Practice Guidelines in conjunction with the provider orders to perform highly skilled sleep studies. JOB DUTIES

JOB SUMMARY
The Respiratory Care teams are an integral part of daily clinical care. We work collaboratively with our clinical caregivers, patients and families to improve and maintain ideal lung health. The goal of our Respiratory Therapist is to perform with a high degree of competency in all clinical aspects of respiratory care for all age groups (adult, geriatric, and neonatal). Respiratory therapy includes the application and monitoring of medical gases (excluding anesthetic gases) and environmental control systems, mechanical ventilatory support, artificial airway care, bronchopulmonary hygiene, pharmacologic agents related to respiratory care procedures, and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation related and limited to respiratory care. Utilizes the application of scientific principles for the identification, prevention, remediation, research, and rehabilitation of acute or chronic cardiopulmonary dysfunction.

* Adheres to department administrative procedures of error free patient charge entry, timely and concise SBAR shift report, accurate documentation and accurate EMR order management.
* Demonstrates activities consistent with the financial objectives of the department in the use of disposable supplies and equipment change out.
* Assumes and performs charge therapist duties when assigned according to departmental policies. If not charge therapist, then reports all relative patient care and equipment issues to charge therapist. Request assistance from the charge therapist when appropriate.
* Demonstrates engagement by attending and participating in 90% of all department and town hall meetings.

Part-Time Faculty - Respiratory Therapy (Central)

Teaching Respiratory Care related course work. Applications for part-time faculty positions are accepted on a continuous basis and reviewed if openings become available. These positions are not current vacancies. Instructors employed as part-time faculty are not entitled to all the rights, privileges, and benefits of regular, full-time employees. Part-time faculty are hired on an "as needed" basis and will work for the duration of time specified by the respective course. A portion of teaching assignment may be evening classes and possibly weekend classes. Faculty are assigned to teach courses using various delivery methods based on the teaching area and the needs of students and the College, which may require a physical presence at the assigned on-site work location.
Required Qualifications:
