ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
* Performs the job functions and duties of Senior Pharmacy Technologist when needed.
* Collects data and analyzes complex information and prepares precise written summaries, reports, and/or recommendations for a variety of purposes for pharmacy leadership as appropriate or as directed.
* Assists with the maintenance of policies and standard operating procedures for area of specialty to ensure the pharmacy department meets all legal, accreditation, and certification requirements
* Completes documentation and maintains records according to established policies and procedures
* Essential job functions vary depending on the assigned specialty area:
* Pharmacy Business
* Provide administrative support and completes clerical tasks
* Serves as the department's timekeeper and is responsible for Kronos timekeeping and payroll management
* Serves as the asset custodian and ensures equipment is tagged and the annual physical asset inventory is complete
* Serves as the department records coordinator and ensures UTMB's records retention schedule is applied to all departmental records

* Communicates alternatives to providers and office staff when appropriate and escalates to a pharmacist when requests require extensive clinical review or denial
* Perform financial reconciliations (including accounts receivable) to identify program exceptions and variances. Analyze root cause and follow up with recommendations for appropriate corrections.
* Prepare and review monthly accounting reports and journal entries, validating for accuracy and completeness. Collaborate with accounting department to design accounting processes that accurately reflect business operations.
* Quantify and explain monthly budget to actual variances and provide budget re-projections; assist with annual budget process
* Responsible for departmental accounts payment/invoice/voucher/check requestions, and submittal of purchase orders and non-purchase orders for payment
* Clinical Services
* Works to improve patient outcomes by ensuring patients receive the safest and most effective medication regimen
* Gathers clinical information on patients and conducts medication histories
* Provides medication dispensing for patient's diagnosis, weight, and age
* Provides specialized drug delivery for related new drugs or technologies
* Provides education and counseling about the drug cost and financial assistance
* Ensures compliance with medication safety standards for clinical specialty area
* Provide pharmacy support to patients who are forced to use external pharmacies for their care, including helping patients troubleshoot issues with getting their prescriptions filled
* Provides support and is a resource for clinical pharmacy services and the clinical pharmacists
* Tracks completion of unit audits, pharmacist monthly reports, and goals
* Supports functions of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee including preparation of meeting materials
* Coordinates in-services, events, and meetings including conference room management
* Supports pharmacist provision of in-person or telephonic/video-telehealth medication therapy management (MTM) services, drug therapy management (DTM) services, and immunization clinics
* Assists with the preparation and completion of staff skill and competency assessments
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
* Has advanced skills in area of specialty.
* Must have current knowledge of safety regulations in the department and in the implementation of new policies and procedures.
* Proficient knowledge of operating system software, desktop applications such as excel, power point, etc., interfaces, and pharmacy information system applications as they relate to the automated dispensing machines.
* Demonstrated ability to prioritize and solve problems.

Position Summary:
Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, compounds and dispenses medical prescriptions. Position Key Accountabilities:
1. Processes medication orders or prescriptions, accurately and safely compounds medications and IV admixtures in acceptable dosage forms, appropriately packages and dispenses pre-manufactured dosage forms.
2. Operates and uses appropriate techniques within systems for storage, preparation, and dispensing of medicinal agents and follows the health system's policies regarding cart fill, unit dose distribution, of medication preparation and labeling, controlled substances reconciliation, and purchasing of pharmaceuticals and supplies.
3. Assists the pharmacist in the preparation of patient, physician and nursing education.
4. Assists the pharmacist in the retrieval of accurate, concise, applicable and timely drug information.
5. Collects patient-specific data to assist the pharmacist in designing, implementing, monitoring, evaluating, and modifying patient pharmacotherapy to ensure effective, safe and economical patient care including screening for IV to oral conversion, renal dosing adjustments, allergies and non-formulary prescribing.

JOB DESCRIPTION
The Pharmacy Technician Specialist assists pharmacists in providing drug distribution, technical services, and clinical services associated with the preparation, storage, and dispensing of pharmaceuticals. The Pharmacy Technologist Specialist has advanced skills in a specialty area and works in a campus-level or system-level capacity.
This position will be primarily located at our League City and Clear Lake Campuses, but may be required to visit other campuses occasionally.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
* Performs the job functions and duties of Senior Pharmacy Technologist when needed.
* Collects data and analyzes complex information and prepares precise written summaries, reports, and/or recommendations for a variety of purposes for pharmacy leadership as appropriate or as directed.
* Assists with the maintenance of policies and standard operating procedures for area of specialty to ensure the pharmacy department meets all legal, accreditation, and certification requirements
* Completes documentation and maintains records according to established policies and procedures
* Essential job functions based on the assigned specialty area:
* Automation
* Contributes to organized initiatives to evaluate and improve the quality and safety of medication use within the health care system.
* Ensures the integrity and accuracy of information in automated technology
* Demonstrates high-level proficiency with the operation and maintenance of automated technology and pharmacy information systems
* Assists pharmacy operations across all campuses with all automation functions including support of automated dispensing cabinets, carousels, devices and robotics, automation servers, automation training, automation reporting, installation, trouble shooting and issue resolution.
* Assists with automation applications working with the interface and server teams within the ITS and vendor teams to maintain the integrity of all automation equipment
* Tests and troubleshoots automation equipment and system problems including vendor ticket tracking and resolution as well as supporting all campuses to resolve issues
* Identifies and reports issues related automated technology and reports identified problems or potential patient safety issues
* Schedules service and upgrades with appropriate vendors
* Participates in the implementation, upgrade, and testing of pharmacy information and automation systems
* Assist operations with automation reporting needs
* Provides additional training support for pharmacy operations as needed with automation technology
* Solicits and reviews feedback from end users, compiles, and analyzes support data and recommends procedural and educational changes as appropriate
* Participates in vendors user groups and maintains relationship with vendors to remain knowledgeable and provides input about new and proposed system enhancements and functionality
* Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.
* Performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
* Has advanced skills in area of specialty.
* Must have current knowledge of safety regulations in the department and in the implementation of new policies and procedures.
* Proficient knowledge of operating system software, desktop applications such as excel, power point, etc., interfaces, and pharmacy information system applications as they relate to the automated dispensing machines.
* Demonstrated ability to prioritize and solve problems.
* Excellent interpersonal skills.
* Communicates effectively verbally and in writing.
* Ability to exercise sound judgment, work well under pressure, take initiative, and be flexible and cooperative.

* Responsible for departmental accounts payment/invoice/voucher/check requisitions, and submittal of purchase orders and non-purchase orders for payment

* Two (2) years of pharmacy technician experience OR Associate of Applied Science in Pharmacy Technician
* Four (4) or more advanced Pharmacy Technologist competencies:
* Prepares and/or oversees preparation of complex prescription medications or medications that require special handling within assigned area such as extemporaneous non-sterile compounded products, sterile compounded IV products or specialty medications
* Participates in the operations of medication therapy management
* Initiates medication reconciliation
* Assists with screening, documentation, and preparation of immunizations
* Works with patients, providers, and payers to obtain prior authorization
* Resolves billing/adjudication issues encountered in the processing of prescription
* Proficient in the use of financial assistance software
* Proficient in C2 safe operation and/or OR anesthesia narcotic reconciliation
* Advanced skill in the use of technology within area of assignment
* Works with leaders and team members to solve problems within assigned area
* Ability to train new employees within area of assignment
* Demonstrates the ability to communicate with other healthcare professionals effectively and professionally
* Ability to apply accepted procedures in inventory control of medications, equipment, devices, and other supplies

The mission of Correctional Managed Care is to address the healthcare needs of underserved patient populations within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) and the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD). assists pharmacists in providing drug distribution, technical services, and clinical services associated with the preparation, storage, and dispensing of pharmaceuticals. Provides technical support and addresses problems related to the assigned area and only passes complex issues to the relevant Lead Pharmacy Technologist and/or Supervisor as needed.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
* Prepares unit-dose medications specific to patient needs including patient's weight, allergies, and age (e.g., pediatric, neonate, adolescent, adult, and geriatric).
* Retrieves and delivers inpatient medication orders and supplies.
* Prepares sterile products utilizing aseptic technique and USP 797 standards.
* Compounds bulk and extemporaneous pharmaceuticals specific to patient's needs including weight and age (e.g., pediatric, neonate, adolescent, adult, and geriatric) utilizing USP 795 standards.
* Demonstrates the ability to operate automated technology including compounding, repackaging, cart fill, and other automated drug systems.
* Communicates effectively with other pharmacy employees, healthcare professionals, and patients while appropriately recognizing age (e.g., pediatric, neonate, adolescent, adult, and geriatric).
* Maintains adequate drug inventories in pharmacy area and patient care areas and notifies the appropriate personnel when shortages and/or outages noted.
* Performs quality assurance/improvement audits.
