The University of Toledo Physicians is seeking a Physician Assistant to join the Department of Surgery, particularly the Division of Trauma Surgery, at the University of Toledo Medical Center, an established level 2 trauma center. The schedule includes a hybrid schedule of day and night shift coverage, and will involve weekends and holidays. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES Responding to level II and level I trauma activations, conducting emergent consultations for trauma, general surgery, and vascular surgery Admitting the above listed surgical patients requiring inpatient care After appropriate training is completed, performing bedside procedures such as suturing, I&D, line placement, chest tube placement, and assisting in the operating room as needed. Addressing urgent overnight floor calls and coordinating care with the attending physician on duty. Precepting/providing education to students rotating on service as needed Other duties as assigned REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Education : Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant Program; Master's degree in appropriate field License and/or Certification: State of Ohio Licensure-Physician Assistant National Certification as a Physician Assistant BLS Certified COA from the Ohio State Medical Board to practice as a Physician Assistant Eligible to obtain and/or maintain Certificate to Prescribe/DEA Skills : Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills WORKING CONDITIONS Must be able to work flexible hours, shifts, holidays and weekends. Tolerate busy environment that requires constant interaction with patients, employees, students, residents, and physicians. Requires prolonged walking and standing. Occasional lifting of patients sometimes over 200 pounds. Occasional carrying of items weighing up to 30 pounds required. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range and manual dexterity. Requires the ability to operate various types of office equipment, including but not limited to: Personal computer, fax machines, copiers, telephones Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment on a daily basis. Must be able to work effectively both with internal and external customers in stressful situations. We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join our multidisciplinary Dysautonomia Program. This provider will evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients with autonomic nervous system disorders such as Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), neurocardiogenic syncope, and orthostatic hypotension. The role requires strong clinical judgment, interdisciplinary collaboration, and a patient-centered approach to managing complex, chronic conditions. Essential Job Functions and Accountabilities: Conduct detailed patient histories and physical exams with a focus on autonomic dysfunction. Order, interpret, and integrate diagnostic testing including tilt table tests, ECGs, autonomic function testing, QSART, echocardiograms, and labs. Develop and implement individualized treatment plans utilizing pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic strategies. Educate patients and families on disease management, lifestyle modifications, and long-term expectations. Collaborate with cardiology, neurology, electrophysiology, physical therapy, behavioral health, and other specialties for coordinated care. Participate in autonomic testing clinics; assist with interpretation and documentation within scope of practice. Document all patient interactions and treatment plans in the EPIC electronic health record system. Support clinical research, data collection, and quality improvement initiatives as appropriate. Contribute to the development of clinical protocols and serve as a resource for staff education. May assist in onboarding and precepting APP students or new providers. Minimum Requirements Education & Licensure: Master's or Doctorate degree in Nursing or Physician Assistant Studies. Current licensure as an NP or PA in the State of Ohio (or eligible to obtain). National certification (AANP, ANCC, or NCCPA). BLS and ACLS certification. Experience: Minimum 2-3 years of clinical experience in dysautonomia. Prior experience with autonomic disorders, syncope management, or complex chronic care preferred. Experience with EPIC or similar electronic medical record systems. Clinical Knowledge & Skills: Understanding of autonomic nervous system disorders (e.g., POTS, neurocardiogenic syncope, orthostatic hypotension). Familiarity with related comorbidities such as EDS, ME/CFS, MCAS, and deconditioning. Competence in interpreting cardiovascular and autonomic diagnostic studies. Strong communication, organizational, and critical thinking skills. Ability to provide compassionate care and manage patients with chronic, fluctuating symptoms. We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join our multidisciplinary Dysautonomia Program. This provider will evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients with autonomic nervous system disorders such as Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), neurocardiogenic syncope, and orthostatic hypotension. The role requires strong clinical judgment, interdisciplinary collaboration, and a patient-centered approach to managing complex, chronic conditions. Essential Job Functions and Accountabilities: Conduct detailed patient histories and physical exams with a focus on autonomic dysfunction. Order, interpret, and integrate diagnostic testing including tilt table tests, ECGs, autonomic function testing, QSART, echocardiograms, and labs. Develop and implement individualized treatment plans utilizing pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic strategies. Educate patients and families on disease management, lifestyle modifications, and long-term expectations. Collaborate with cardiology, neurology, electrophysiology, physical therapy, behavioral health, and other specialties for coordinated care. Participate in autonomic testing clinics; assist with interpretation and documentation within scope of practice. Document all patient interactions and treatment plans in the EPIC electronic health record system. Support clinical research, data collection, and quality improvement initiatives as appropriate. Contribute to the development of clinical protocols and serve as a resource for staff education. May assist in onboarding and precepting APP students or new providers. Minimum Requirements Education & Licensure: Master's or Doctorate degree in Nursing or Physician Assistant Studies. Current licensure as an NP or PA in the State of Ohio (or eligible to obtain). National certification (AANP, ANCC, or NCCPA). BLS and ACLS certification. Experience: Minimum 2-3 years of clinical experience in dysautonomia. Prior experience with autonomic disorders, syncope management, or complex chronic care preferred. Experience with EPIC or similar electronic medical record systems. Clinical Knowledge & Skills: Understanding of autonomic nervous system disorders (e.g., POTS, neurocardiogenic syncope, orthostatic hypotension). Familiarity with related comorbidities such as EDS, ME/CFS, MCAS, and deconditioning. Competence in interpreting cardiovascular and autonomic diagnostic studies. Strong communication, organizational, and critical thinking skills. Ability to provide compassionate care and manage patients with chronic, fluctuating symptoms. As part of our growing Division of Cardiology, you will deliver high-quality care across inpatient and outpatient settings, supporting patients with a broad range of cardiovascular conditions, arrhythmias, and device management needs.
