The Department of Classics at the University of Virginia is pleased to announce a search for a Latinist to fill the Basil L. Gildersleeve Professorship in Classics. An endowed chair at the University of Virginia is one of the University's most prestigious honors, awarded to faculty of exemplary distinction in their fields according to an independent assessment of their peers.
The anticipated starting date is August 10, 2026. We are seeking to maintain and enhance the academic excellence of the Classics Department by the appointment of a scholar with internationally recognized expertise. Any field of ancient Latin literature will be considered. The Department prides itself on its collegiality and its robust Graduate and Undergraduate Programs. In addition to research the new colleague will teach graduate students and undergraduates at all levels (two courses per semester), will share in the leadership of the Department, and will contribute to the Department's collaborations within the larger academic community of the University. The appointment will be made at the level of Full Professor, but applicants now at the rank of Associate Professor with exceptional records of scholarship and teaching will be considered.

The Department of Health Sciences in the College of Health and Behavioral Studies at James Madison University offers an engaging and dynamic Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences curriculum. The Health Sciences major is a popular major at JMU with approximately 1500 total students declared and is designed for students interested in understanding the causes of disease, strategies for promoting health, wellness, and behavior change, and the scientific basis and methodologies for analyzing health for both individuals and populations. SMAD seeks a student-oriented colleague to teach journalism with a focus on sports media. The successful candidate should be able to teach a combination of beginning and advanced reporting courses, including sports coverage, as well as other media classes, such as teaching media ethics and contributing to SMAD's foundation courses. We are seeking to hire at least one Visiting Lecturer to start in August 2026. The position will be for an initial ten-month period; there may be the possibility of a subsequent one-time renewal.
The JMU Department of Engineering is a community of educators committed to contributing to a welcoming scholarly environment, who support each other in achieving broad success in teaching, scholarship, and service. The department offers an ABET-accredited BS degree in engineering with new concentrations in civil and environmental, geo-environmental, and electromechanical systems. Anchored in the liberal arts through the university's general education program, JMU's engineering major is characterized by experiential learning of engineering in team-based settings, and the major culminates in a two-year-long engineering project experience. The department currently has fifteen tenured or tenure-track faculty members representing multiple engineering disciplines, seven support staff, and approximately 750 students. Its strengths include dedicated faculty and staff, an engaged and invested student body and alumni, strong administrative and lab support, and well-equipped laboratories and design studios. Duties and Responsibilities:
We seek to expand our department with at least one Visiting Lecturer who will support our mission by teaching undergraduate engineering courses in one or more of the following thematic areas with specific course needs enumerated:
• Introductory electrical and computer engineering courses (ENGR 313 and ENGR 345)
• Engineering analysis and data analytics (ENGR 315)
• Microprocessors and embedded system design (ENGR 445)
• Engineering fundamentals and design (ENGR 112, ENGR 231, and ENGR 232)
Although the position is primarily focused on teaching, there is opportunity for professional development within the department, college, and university.
Qualifications:
Successful candidates will have a Master's degree, demonstrated relevant professional experience, and a PhD in hand by time of appointment.
Preference will be given to candidates with:
• degrees in engineering (or closely related field)
• demonstrated experience teaching undergraduate engineering courses
• relevant industrial engineering experience
Additional preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate potential to emerge as agile and adaptive educators with capability to teach throughout the undergraduate curriculum.
