The Emergency Department Clinical Social Worker is responsible for conducting face to face meetings with patients and families in order to complete assessments and provide appropriate interventions. Responsible for serving populations with a variety of clinical needs and who have needs related to health impairments chronic illness trauma death and dying marriage and family dysfunction mental health and behavioral health issues and substance abuse. Works with victims of intimate partner violence abuse neglect or exploitation and facilitate the identification and implementation of healthy boundaries and effective communication techniques. Works with patients and team members in an effort to maximize patients' potential for the healthiest coping responses to their challenging situation including timely and safe discharge plans. Based on overall assessment and summary of patients and family needs makes appropriate community referrals and Medical Center referrals for follow up as needed. Serves as a liaison between the medical staff and the patient/family and provides interventions designed to minimize patient stress and maximize coping skills to expedite recovery. Collaborates with team members to maximize patient progression. Supervises bachelors and masters level students.
* Provides direct social work service to patients and families and/or patients in the Emergency Department by providing assistance with social and practical environmental problems.
* Provides emotional support to patients and families of patients in the Emergency Department who may exhibit feelings of anxiety and stress precipitated by illness and hospitalization.
* Conducts interventions based on needs identified during initial assessment.
* Advocates for patient and family wishes when appropriate.
* Provides emotional support to patient and family during hospitalization.
* Educates patient and family on the intent of the intervention as needed.
* Informs care team patient and family of anticipated post-discharge needs.
* Intervenes with patients and families on in-patient units as needed and as possible at times when in-patient Social Workers are not on duty.
* In-patient responsibilities include facilitating family presence at code events trauma support bereavement supportresponse to reports of abuse and/or neglect and general support.
* Maintains acceptable working knowledge of resources needed to provide patients with continuity of care before and after discharge.
* Participates in in-service and staff development activities by attendance serving on planning committees and/or offering topics for pertinent educational programs.
* Documents all activities in accordance with UVA and Social Work Policy Procedure and Guidelines and regulatory requirements
* Participates in education/research activities.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: Master's degree in Social Work from a CSWE accredited social work program required
Experience: 3 years' experience post master's required.
Licensure: Licensed to practice as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the Commonwealth of Virginia (LCSW) or applicants with an active license from another state must obtain Virginia LCSW within 18 months of hire date.

The Mental Health Intake Clinician coordinates internal/external admissions and referrals and makes program admission decisions utilizing established clinical criteria. * Uses the hospital admissions criteria to make direct decisions regarding the appropriateness of patients for admission to the program.

* Utilizes sound judgment in applying predetermined admission criteria, under clinical supervision.
* Utilizes clinical assessment and applies case conceptualization to make appropriate decisions, including making community referral(s) at the appropriate level of care for new and existing patients.
* Utilizes his/her clinical expertise to serve as a crisis consultant as needed and provides clinical backup and support to non-clinical Patient Services Representatives in the performance of their scheduling duties.

Chief Purpose of this position:
The Department of Psychiatry in collaboration with the Department of Internal Medicine is seeking a research focused candidate as a faculty member in its Ambulatory Care Division. The candidate will be expected to primarily conduct research in sickle cell disease (SCD) analgesic and psycho-pharmacogenetics, and health systems strengthening and clinical workforce development. The candidate will be responsible for teaching/supervising students/trainees within multiple programs, leadership in the implementation and evaluation of evidence-based treatments, and other scholarly activities.
Position Responsibilities:
Teaching - Plan, coordinate, and execute educational activities through the Departments of Internal Medicine and Psychiatry, including seminars and workshops for faculty or trainees, educational activities for community partners, and annual conferences.
Research - Conduct independent research studies, submit grant proposals, obtain and maintain external support for projects, collaborate with researchers in the Department of Psychiatry, Department of Internal Medicine, and others, present at national and/or international professional meetings and participate in appropriate academic organization, and other scholarly duties. Research shall primarily focus in Sickle Cell Disease analgesic and psycho-pharmacogenetics, and health systems strengthening and clinical workforce development.
Service - Serve as an expert in sickle cell disease (SCD) analgesic and psycho-pharmacogenetics research for groups across the university. Mentor junior faculty and trainees across all affiliate units to develop sickle cell disease research interests and encourage health system strengthening and clinical workforce development. Serve on committees and taskforces relevant to sickle cell disease research and education at the university.
Clinical - Provide psychiatric assessment and treatment to the patients within the Department of Psychiatry's ambulatory clinic. This position may also rotate or provide telehealth services at VCU Health's ambulatory sites in the community, such as Community Memorial Hospital, Tappahannock Hospital, Williamsburg, etc.
Other - Provide appropriate annual reporting to School and university leadership, work with finance and business operations for fiscal oversight, and assists with strategic planning for unit, School, and university as needed.

* PhD (or equivalent training and experience), preferably in Translational Research, Public Health, Social Work, Psychology, or Health Care field

Outreach Responsibilities
AVA Ambassadors will collaborate with professional staff to create and host initiatives that will intentionally engage with AVA schools and build stronger relationships between AVA schools and the University. Some examples:
Provide tours to visiting Commonwealth Partnerships schools
Serve on student panels throughout the academic year
Support events such as spring group visit days (February 3rd & 24th, March 18th), Days on the Lawn (DOTL), and other relevant Enrollment events
Assist with projects that assess the needs of AVA schools and develop a proposal to intentionally engage with them.
Potentially visit AVA schools throughout the Commonwealth and engage as an alum of the school

Attend all trainings and planning sessions, including weekly trainings. Weekly trainings will likely be 3:00PM-4:00PM or 3:30PM-4:30PM every Friday.
Attend the Spring Semester Retreat that will be held on Friday, January 23rd or Saturday, January 24th
Attend all 1:1 supervision and all-team meetings with professional staff

General Responsibilities

Terms of Employment
Hours: Shifts are scheduled between 9:00AM-5PM. After hours shifts may occur as early as 7AM or as late as 9PM during special event days and when traveling.

Hours will differ based on AVA needs and FWS availability.
Pay Rate: $16 per hour
