In this role, the Cardiac Cath Tech RT III performs a wide variety of specialized technical work in all aspects of the OR's hybrid laboratory. Cardiac Cath Tech work involves operating a complex range of physiological hemodynamic monitoring and recording equipment. The tech will also operate radiographic equipment including PACS. The tech will be involved with the diagnosing and treating cardiac and peripheral vascular disease.

Overviews
Under direct supervision, assists medical laboratory scientists by performing routine laboratory support duties and approved testing in any one of various specialized laboratories throughout UMMS, following departmental procedures and regulations stipulated by Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act.

Receives and accessions patient samples into the Laboratory Information System. Ensures that all codes and information are entered accurately and timely. Maintains accurate patient identification and information for billing purposes following departmental procedures.
Processes (centrifuges, aliquots, and performs other special handling procedures for specimens) and delivers specimens to specific laboratories as required. Saves or preserves specimens as needed in refrigerator, freezer, incubator, dry ice, or other storage as appropriate.
Identifies and resolves specimen integrity issues such as mislabeled specimens, quantity not sufficient (QNS), specimen integrity, incorrect container type, incorrect/incomplete requisitions, etc., and documents all information for quality assurance purposes.
Processes add-on testing according to departmental procedures.
May perform waived to moderate complexity testing.
Answers telephones and responds to customer inquiries and requests.
May perform waived to moderate complexity as approved by the supervisor in accordance with departmental guidelines.
Resolves customer complaints/issues and follows through with appropriate documentation.
Communicates test results, test descriptions, etc. Assures a high level of customer satisfaction by communicating and responding to a variety of internal and external customers in a professional and courteous manner.

Troubleshoots and solves instrument problems with some assistance from medical laboratory scientists.

General Summary
Under general supervision performs a variety of routine and specialized technical procedures in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory/Interventional Radiology Department. Assists physicians in the performance of cardiovascular diagnostic testing and other therapeutic/interventional procedures in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory.
Principal Responsibilities And Tasks
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.
If certified by ARRT: Operates fluoroscopy, digital angiography equipment, applying ionizing radiation to cardiology patients in accordance with standard operating procedures and according to departmental policies and procedure
Operates hemodynamic assessment tools to include cardiac output, blood gas analyzers, oxygen consumption analyzers, and patient monitoring equipment such as blood pressure cuffs, electrocardiogram and pulse oximeters to measure the various vital functions during the procedure.
Operates procedural equipment to include but not limited to: Intravascular Ultrasound, Fractional Flow Reserve, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumps, Impella, Anglo-Jet, Power Injector.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
Associates degree or diploma from accredited radiologic technology/RCIS/RCES program
BLS certification is required.
ACLS certification is preferred, but the employee has one year to obtain the certification if the ACLS is a first-time endeavor.
Certification from the ARRT as an RT(R)(CVI), RT(R)(CI) or RT(R)(VI) and licensure by the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene as a Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist
Maintenance of 12 contact hours of education every year.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Knowledge of radiology and cardiovascular principles and practices including anatomy and physiology, radiation protection and physics, radiographic positioning and general nursing procedure.

* Experience working in an academic environment is preferred.
* Considerable knowledge of three or more of the following disciplines: Hemp, cultivation, breeding, genetics, greenhouse management, plant propagation is preferred.
* Ability to plan, organize and supervise the work of subordinates.

General Working Conditions
This job primarily operates in a professional office environment. The employee will routinely operate standard office equipment including but not limited to computers, keyboards, mouse, phones, photocopiers, printers, scanners, filing cabinets and fax machines. While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
Typical physical competencies include but are not limited to frequently remaining stationary, moving, reaching, positioning self and occasionally ascending/descending, lifting/moving objects weighing between 5-15 pounds. This job also entails frequently communicating, discerning and exchanging information, detecting and perceiving objects up close, at a distance, and the ability to adjust focus. These positions are responsible for guiding student learning in the simulation and skills labs under the supervision of faculty. They are directly involved with and responsible for facilitating relevant and typical simulation scenarios and debriefings. Additional support including equipment/supplies set up and maintenance, as well as records/database management is required.
Salary Rate / Pay Rate
$20.00 - $25.00 per hour

Graduation from an accredited school of nursing, license pending OR Registered Nurse license or EMT-P paramedic license
Work Hours
Hours/shift may vary but will be completed during normal business hours, not to exceed 28 per week.

The Standardized Patient reports directly to the Coordinator of the Nursing Simulation Lab. The primary responsibility of the Standardized Patient is to portray the characteristics of a real patient, simulating all aspects of the created scenarios, primarily in the simulated in-patient setting including history of current problem, affect/behavior and physical findings, in a standardized, accurate, and reliable manner. Scenario facts must be accurately memorized, retained, and portrayed. Scenarios may be audio and videotaped for evaluative purposes. The Standardized Patient must be willing to assist with simulation tasks such as resetting scenarios and occasionally offering feedback. This position will work approximately 100-200 hours per academic semester approximately and 50 hours during the summer semester.
Salary Rate / Pay Rate
$14.00 per hour

High school diploma or equivalent.
