Department: Facilities Mgmt EV Salary/Grade: 399/S3 Operate and maintain the Central Utility Plant high high-pressure steam boilers and auxiliaries, in a safe and efficient manner, under the direct supervision of the shift operating engineer.

Specific Responsibilities:
* Operates boilers and accompanying ancillary equipment as instructed, maintaining proper steam pressure and water levels and insuring safe and reliable operation of the equipment.
* Maintains neat and accurate operating and maintenance log entries as required.
* Performs daily water treatment tests on boilers/closed loops, maintaining proper chemical levels.
* Willingness to work shift vacancies caused by vacations or openings.
* Willingness to work shift maintenance when scheduled or required.

Minimum Qualifications: (Education, experience, and any other certifications or clearances)
* Minimum of a high school diploma and two years of experience with high-pressure steam boiler operation.
* Good understanding of the steam cycle, and familiarity with boiler components and accompanying auxiliary equipment.
* Mechanical aptitude and proven ability to maintain operating standards.
* Knowledge of occupational hazards and recurring safety precautions.
* Must be a member of Operating Engineers Local 399, or join after satisfactory completion of a 90-day probationary period.
* Must be able to work rotating shifts and holidays.

The Solid Waste & Recycling Division is primarily responsible for the disposal of Municipal Solid Waste generated in the County as required by North Carolina State Law and in accordance with all applicable local regulations. Gaston County currently uses an integrated solid waste management plan consisting of sanitary landfilling, compost/mulch, recycling, and related waste reduction programs.
An hourly salary range of $24.71 to $28.72 is anticipated for this position.The duties listed below are not all that may be assigned but are considered essential for an employee to perform.
* Supervise the general daily duties of all heavy equipment operators. Meet daily with the Landfill Administrator to set objectives. Meet daily with equipment operators to give out assignments and discuss the work plan. Serves as a trainer for new operators.
* Performs inspection of equipment daily before operation. Check fluid levels. General maintenance and support of landfill infrastructure. Ensures operators are also completing pre-trip inspections and turning them in daily.
* Operates bulldozers, graders, loaders, off-road trucks, or compactors as needed. Change daily assignments based on priorities and staff availability.
* Performs visual inspection and routine maintenance of equipment.
* Reports the presence of unsafe working conditions or hazardous materials. Provide general information to staff, customers, and residents when required.
* Reads blueprints and maintains grades on slopes, and lays pipe for leachate and methane collection systems. Ensure facility compliance with local, state, and federal rules and requirements.

Position Summary
The Diesel and Heavy Duty Equipment instructors are responsible to the Dean of the Automotive and-Diesel Technology Division, and will provide classroom and laboratory instruction for students on a daily basis. Will teach applicable category of maintenance in all facets of heavy duty equipment and diesel including storage batteries, cranking motors, charging systems, EV and HEV systems, motor-generators, ignition systems, lighting systems, dash instrumentation and indicators, HVAC systems, engine performance, drivability diagnosis, on-board electronic control modules and communication networks. Develop student understanding of the principles of operation of these automotive systems and their functions in passenger car, motor vehicles for the performance of diagnostic type tests and troubleshooting. Be proficient in both the operation and teaching advanced diagnoses equipment such as Lab Scope, Diagnostic Scanners, Digital Multi Meter and other diagnostic equipment. Will also instruct in safety, environmental awareness, human relations and leadership, which are integral to the program. Will participate in curriculum development and assist in counseling students, and relations. Work closely with peers to maintain excellence in the program while working on campus committees and support groups and with a technical advisory committee and other professional organizations in the automotive industry. Must be current and stay within the industry, and within the areas of instruction. Current ASE certification is required or should be obtained within 90-days upon hire.

A Brief Overview
