UW-Green Bay company history timeline

1965

Eventually, he compromised by proposing that the freshman-sophomore campuses in Green Bay and Kenosha be expanded to four-year institutions (the Kenosha institution eventually became the University of Wisconsin-Parkside). The bill was signed into law on September 2, 1965.

UW–Green Bay, founded in 1965, originally had an environmental sustainability emphasis, and now offers a wide array of degrees, many of which are organized as problem-focused interdisciplinary units.

In 1963, the Coordinating Committee for Higher Education unanimously recommended building a new university in the Fox Valley. It grew to become the largest by 1965.

1968

UW–Green Bay officially came into being in the fall of 1968, with the first classes being held at the Deckner Center (now Anne Sullivan Elementary School), home of the former Green Bay extension center.

1976

The 1976 expansion Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-14) were the last NFL team to complete a season without a victory.

2000

2000 The Last Watch for Robert John Langan, 69, a Green Bay, Wis., resident and former resident of Yonkers, N.Y., occurred when he died at home on Thursday morning, Aug.

2001

2001 Washington Commons, the former Port Plaza Mall, was sold to local developers through negotiations with the city.

2003

The team received its first national ranking in 2003, when it was ranked as high as #16 in both the Associated Press poll and the Coaches' Poll.

2004

2004 The city celebrated once again.

2005

In 2005, they also received a national ranking and a bid to the NCAA Tournament, but were knocked out in the first round by Maryland.

The Green Bay softball team claimed its first Horizon League tournament championship in 2005 after being picked to finish last in the conference.

2006

In 2006, they appeared in the WNIT, where they lost to Iowa State in a first-round game.

2011

In the 2011 tournament, they entered as a #5 seed and made their first Sweet Sixteen appearance, defeating Arkansas–Little Rock and Michigan State before losing to regional top seed Baylor.

2019

Unofficial enrollment figures released today show the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay has realized its largest headcount in institutional history, with 8,098 students enrolled on the Green Bay Campus for the Fall 2019 semester.
