Since the University’s inception as a teacher-training school in 1871 to its stature today as a premier comprehensive institution, quality and innovative higher education have been hallmarks of UW Oshkosh’s success.

Opening its doors in 1871, the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh was then the third normal school founded by the state.

University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh was established in 1871 as the Oshkosh State Normal School, a teacher-training school.

1963

A graduate school was added in 1963, transforming the one-time normal school into a fully developed university.

1964

The hall became a specialized geography and geology building after Halsey Science Center was built in 1964.

1972

At the threshold of its second century of service in 1972, the university continues to prepare students for the work defined by its first president, George S. Albee, as dedicated to "lifting humanity to a higher, noble life."
