Job Description SummaryNOAA Living Marine Resources Cooperative Science Center (LMRCSC) The Department of Natural Sciences invites applications for a full-time, twelve-month tenure-track or tenured faculty position of NOAA LMRCSC Distinguished Research Scientist. Responsibilities:

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Career experience in industry and/or government/military may be an important component in the appointment package.
ARLIS seeks research scientists (in the Assistant, Associate, and full ranks) to commit effort on its projects. Exceptional candidates in all areas related to the ARLIS's current research trajectories will be given serious consideration, particularly those with experience in multiple areas. These include the following:
Psychological and brain sciences, including neuroscience, human cognition, individual differences, and social psychology Social influence and disinformation, detection and mitigation of insider threat, industrial/organizational psychology, and teamwork and group dynamics
Computational social science (including agent-based modeling and simulation, social media analysis, behavioral economics, game theory, predictive modeling)

Job Description SummaryOrganization's Summary Statement: The Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence and Security (ARLIS), based at the University of Maryland College Park, was established in 2018 under the auspices of the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence (USDI) to be a strategic asset for research and development in social systems, autonomy and augmentation, and advanced computing. One of only 15 designated Department of Defense University Affiliated Research Centers (UARCs) in the nation and the only UARC focused on supporting the intelligence community, ARLIS conducts both unclassified and classified research spanning from basic to applied system development and works to serve the US Government as an independent and objective trusted agent.
ARLIS research is driven by a cadre of research scientists and engineers, faculty research specialists and project engineers, further supported by senior University of Maryland faculty and a consortium of university partners. Research is typically conducted through teams of e.g. social scientists, computer scientists, psychologists, linguists, cognitive neuroscientists, applied mathematicians, political scientists, policy analysts, and systems engineers.
The Assistant/Associate Research Scientist will support ARLIS's applied research efforts in computer vision and cognitive/affective science. This role is focused on designing, developing, and evaluating advanced computer vision algorithms and prototypes that address real-world defense and national security challenges. The ideal candidate will possess strong experience in computational modeling and AI/ML systems, contributing to both early-stage research and deployable solutions.

Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement computer vision models for real-time and offline applications

Responsibilities:
Research Security & Compliance:
•Develop and implement research security policies aligned with federal and
institutional regulations (e.g., NSPM-33, CUI, export controls).
•Ensure compliance with federal funding agency security requirements (e.g.,
NIH, NSF, DOE, DOD).
•Collaborate with IT security to safeguard sensitive research data and
intellectual property.
Training & Awareness:
•Conduct research security training sessions and develop resources for faculty,
researchers, and students on research integrity, cybersecurity, and compliance
best practices.
•Provide guidance on responsible international collaborations and best
practices for securing research data.
Risk Mitigation & Foreign Influence Safeguards:
•Assess risks related to foreign influence in research and develop mitigation
strategies while promoting an inclusive research environment.
•Monitor evolving federal research security guidelines and update.
•Performs other related duties as assigned.
Physical Demands:
•May require extended periods of standing, bending, stooping, sitting at desk.
•May require lifting.
•Requires communication with a variety of constituents externally and internally.
•Requires operation of a variety of office equipment.Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., research administration, cybersecurity, law, public policy, or science/engineering).
Experience: Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in research security, compliance, export controls, cybersecurity, or a related field.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
Knowledge of federal research security requirements (e.g., NSPM-33, Controlled Unclassified
Information (CUI), NIST 800- 171).
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Strong communication and training skills to engage faculty and researchers.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
