The Cardiac Sonographer presents a pleasing and helpful manner to the patient, physicians, visitors, members of the department, and all other medical personnel. The Cardiac Sonographer exhibits courteous behavior when addressing the general public and outside hospital related agencies. The Cardiac Sonographer supports and contributes to departmental and hospital objectives by functioning as a technologist in all aspects of echocardiography. This is a full time, day shift position in Harrisonburg, Va. Sign on Bonus of up to $20,000 for qualified candidates. Hours: Monday - Friday, day shift, with call every 7th week to include the weekend. The echocardiographer is off the preceding Friday and following Monday of their call weekend. The Echocardiographer must live within a 30-minute drive of the hospital for call purposes. An Echocardiographer, also known as a cardiac sonographer, specializes in performing diagnostic ultrasound examinations of the heart. These professionals work closely with cardiologists to evaluate heart structures, functions, and blood flow, aiding in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular conditions. The Sentara RMH Medical Center echocardiography lab is considered high volume with close to 9,500 procedures performed annually. The lab works closely with our invasive cardiology (structural heart, electrophysiology, diagnostic/interventional cath) and cardiothoracic surgery services.Each Team member is expected to perform about 7 exams per day. Specific exams include: adult 2D and 3D transthoracic and transesophageal echo, myocardial strain, contrast (DEFINITY), agitated saline (bubble study), exercise stress echo and dobutamine stress echo. Preliminary reports are generated in ProSolv (Structured Report SW Application). Clinical equipment include state of the art Philips Epic ultrasound systems and EPIC (electronic medical record). Both inpatient and outpatient echo services are located on the Sentara RMH Medical Center main campus within the non-invasive cardiology lab. As a Pediatric Echocardiographer, you will be required to perform transthoracic echocardiograms for all ages including fetuses, premature neonates (22 week gestation and above), newborns to adolescents, and This role will be Full Time Days Shift: Monday - Friday, some weekends. Pediatric Echocardiographer Job Responsibilities: Demonstrates the ability to recognize clinical and/or emergent problems that may interfere with exams and takes appropriate action to resolve them while producing the most desirable outcome, as evidence by exam results and patient satisfaction. Communicates effectively with ordering and/or interpreting physicians to ensure appropriate use. Demonstrates proper technique for injection of IV contrast, or other test-enhancing solution, under the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography Standards. Ensures rooms are stocked with appropriate supplies and has required supplies readily available for procedures. Correctly identifies patients and appropriate orders, ensuring a high degree of accuracy, as evidenced by the lack of mismatched studies. Maintains active credential status by complying with continual education requirements. Attends at least 50 percent of QA conferences. Demonstrates patient safety in department by use of side rails, braking mechanisms and patient monitoring as demonstrated by risk management. Reports, documents and corrects any adverse, unsafe or unusual conditions, as evidenced by documentation in the tracking system. Demonstrates proper care and aseptic cleaning of all patient related equipment following established department policies to ensure the quality of care provided to patients. Troubleshoots equipment effectively and reports equipment to biomedical engineering/vendor, as evidenced by service reports. Performs/recognizes need for routine maintenance of echo vascular equipment for consistency of quality images, as evidenced by the physician and the exam results. Pediatric Echocardiographer 2 Additional Requirements: Work Schedule: Monday-Friday Days, some weekends. 8 or 10 hours shifts depending on department needs. Education: Graduate of an accredited school/program of diagnostic medical sonography or five years of specialized training in a hospital/healthcare setting. License: ARDMS Registered with RDCS Certification or CCI Registered with RCS Certification for Echo, or ARDMS with RVT or CCI with the RVS Certification for Vascular. Certification: Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association Experience: One year of experience after acquiring registry in a hospital/healthcare environment in the performance of cardiac or vascular sonography care setting.

The sonographer is competent in the production, utilization, recognition and analysis of Ultrasound images and patterns used for patient diagnosis and treatment. This position requires expertise in abdomen, obstetrics, and vascular sonography and excludes cardiac scanning. * DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS * Overall performance rating of below indicated essential job duties: * Verifies order and patient prior to examination, obtain patient's clinical history, reads chart/outpatient referral slip and interviews and communicates information to patient or appropriate family member. * Prepares patients for examinations and explains procedures to patient. Performs Ultrasound procedures. (Vascular, Abdominal, Retroperitoneal, OB/GYN, Doppler and Color Doppler). Observes and detects physical and psychological needs of patients during procedures requiring visual and auditory skills. Observes patient respiration rate. Detects change in patient behavior indicating patient distress, i.e. seizure, aspiration, choking, struggling or coughing. * Operates complex Ultrasound equipment pertinent to the department's needs (Real Time, B-mode, M-Mode, Doppler, Color Flow Imaging and all related recording systems), after demonstrating competency in theory and practical application of Ultrasound techniques. * Provides technical aide for surgical biopsy and aspiration procedures, maintains a sterile field while assisting physician by opening sterile needles, syringes, appropriate procedure trays and scanning in a sterile field with sterile gel. * Performs diagnostic testing on equipment and promptly reports malfunctioning equipment to the Supervisor or Radiology Administrative Director. Contacts field engineer for equipment service as needed. * EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/OTHER REQUIREMENTS * Minimum requirement: * Graduate of Radiography or Ultrasound Program approved by the JRCERT or equivalent. * Maintains active certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) or American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARMDS) certification within six months from start.
