Technicians are asked to perform the four basic departmental functions (decontamination, prep and pack, sterilization, and dispatch) with efficiency, expertise, and accuracy. Further, the manner in which an SPD/Scope Tech will perform these duties will be characterized by resourcefulness, determination, courtesy, and professionalism. Techs are expected to build and maintain a comprehensive body of knowledge with respect to the standards and procedures associated with the preparation, sterilization, storage, and delivery of surgical instrumentation and endoscopes per AAMI, AORN, SGNA, ASGE, and CDC guidelines.

Essential Functions:
* Effectively communicates with co-workers and all other hospital personnel. Able to write routine reports and correspondence; Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization
* Answers telephone promptly and assist caller with obtaining items needed
* Delivers scheduled case carts to the Surgery Department
* Inventory and delivers back-up case carts to the Surgery Department and required areas
* Responsible for returned instrumentation and supplies (if applicable) that is unused, and the integrity of packaging has not been compromised
* Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; Looks for ways to improve and promote quality
* Performs cleaning and decontamination duties. Works quickly yet safely and thoroughly addresses all instrumentation taking into account any unique cleaning demands. Able to decontaminate all reusable instruments, sets, and utensils according to acceptable Sterile processing standards
* Disinfects and cleans endoscopy scopes and equipment according to SGNA/ASGE standards and hospital policy
* Inspects, assembles, and packages all decontaminated reusable instruments and sets looking for cleanliness and functionality of all instrumentation
* Performs wrapping and packaging duties. Prioritizes work; focuses on consistent throughput; accountable for knowledge and expertise with respect to all instruments
* Operates all processing equipment used within the department
* Performs sterilization and all monitoring activities associated with it. Knowledgeable with respect to biological monitoring; organized and efficient

This position is responsible for working independently and with team members to ensure that all surgical instrumentation are properly decontaminated, assembled, inspected, packaged, sterilized, high level disinfected, marked for repair and placed in a proper repair location, and communicate incomplete trays and missing items to management and OR immediately. All instruments must be distributed, tracked and stored in a safe, secure, aseptic and timely manner throughout the hospital and clinics. Immediate-use steam sterilization, tray turnovers between surgical cases and releasing sterilized loads from the department must be performed observing standard practice. Each team member will be qualified to train others as assigned and serve as a front-line resource to sterile processing customers.

Required Qualifications:
Central Service/Sterile Processing/or Surgical Technology program certification with hands-on clinical experience
or
1 year of central service/sterile processing/surgical technology experience.
Word Processing knowledge, typing, data entry, strong communication skills - verbal and written.
The candidate will present current certification from either CBSPD: C.S.P.D.T. or HSPA (formerly known as IAHCSMM): C.R.C.S.T. or must attain one of these certifications within 18 months of hire.
The 18 month deadline will be the set on the same numbered day of the month as the hire date. For hire dates falling on the 31st, the deadline defaults to the last day of the 18th month.
This certification must be maintained for the duration of employment.

* Dispense products requested by verbal, written or telephone requisitions for equipment and supplies.
* Identify and assign priority to emergency requisitions and required supplies and equipment based on knowledge of procedure requested.
* Replace lost or damaged instruments as required to complete the tray.

Sterile Processing Technician
: The provider practice sterile processing technician acts as the primary clinic staff responsible for all sterilization activities performed in the clinic processing room. Manages sterilization equipment in accordance with policy procedure, regulatory compliance, and manufacturer's instructions for use. Responsible for ensuring clinic has clean, sterile tools, and equipment readily available for delivering patient care. Responsible for decontamination, correct assembly, and sterile processing of all instrumentation used at the provider practice clinic. Responsible for maintaining appropriate levels of sterile processing supplies. This includes requesting order, receiving, and restocking supplies upon arrival. Assist in preparation and assembly of medical and surgical supplies used in office procedures, instrumentation, and equipment.
Clinical Medical Assistant
: Performs designated tasks for patients in all age groups in clinic setting. May perform basic monitoring to include temperature, pulse, respiration, B/P. Assists with patient care duties his/her scope of practice, and as skill competency is verified. Performs clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks. Communicates, assists, and supports the clinical team lead, and other clinical staff, in support for the efficient delivery of patient care. Assist clinical team lead in receiving and distributing supplies and equipment upon arrival.
