Responsibilities: + Completes vital signs, specimen testing and EKGs as needed. + Organizes daily schedule of patients, greet patients and assigns rooms. + Orders supplies for unit as necessary. + Maintains competency requirements. + Coordinates the ordering of blood products in collaboration with RNs, Blood Bank and Laboratory. + Greets each person entering the clinic, identifies self and role. Explains processes and procedures to new patients and assists with paperwork. + Participate in interdisciplinary activities such as staff meetings and other committees as assigned. + Other Duties as Assigned. + Maintain high visibility. Stationed in a prominent area in the clinic that is readily identifiable and accessible to customer. + Anticipates and responds to meet customer needs. + Respond appropriately to crisis situation as a team member. + Participates in interdisciplinary activities such as staff meetings and other committees as assigned. + Assists in the registration of patients to include verification and confirmation of health insurance coverage. + Immediately report any situation that may impact safety of patients, visitors and staff. + Provides front desk coverage as assigned. + Continuously monitors environment and facilitates correction of any detraction from the appearance, comfort and safety of the clinic. + Account for all customers in the clinic. + Provides lobby/waiting room coordination and supervision. + Serve as liaison between customer and clinic staff. + Collects 100% of copays daily and correctly balances at the end of each day. + Coordinates scheduling to include testing. + Coordinates and manages the bone marrow biopsy schedule for multiple practitioners and bone marrow technician. + High School graduate or equivalent required. + Minimum of three years of direct patient care and or phlebotomy experience. + Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic and treatment room responsibilities. + Possesses strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with individuals from multi-disciplinary groups. + Possesses excellent organizational skills.Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: + Medical Assistant or Phlebotomy licensure preferred + CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire + Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) + Act 34 UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Disability/Veteran

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: * High School Diploma or GED and two years of experience in patient registration, appointment scheduling, insurance processing or customer service * OR an Associate's Degree and one year of experience * OR a Bachelor's Degree * Ability to perform basic math sufficient to process insurance co-pays * Working knowledge of PC window applications Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: * Knowledge of medical terminology * Ability to type a minimum of 30 words per minute or demonstrable personal computer keyboard skills Physical Requirements: * Dexterity sufficient to operate a PC and other office equipment. * Requires extended periods of standing, walking or sitting. * Good visual acuity through normal or corrected vision. * Must be able to navigate various locations and function in a fast-paced, hectic environment. * Ability to lift and transport up to 25 pounds. Reviews and interprets medical record documentation for patient history, diagnosis, and previous treatment plans to pre-authorize insurance plan determined procedures to avoid financial penalties to patient, provider and facility. + 2. Utilizes payor-specific approved criteria or state laws and regulations to determine medical necessity or the clinical appropriateness for inpatient admissions, outpatient facility, office services, durable medical equipment, and drugs in terms of type, frequency, extent, site and duration, and considered effective for the patient's illness, injury, or disease. + 3. Ensures accurate coding of the diagnosis, procedure, and services being rendered using ICD-9-CM, CPT, and HCPCS Level II. + 4. Provides referral/pre-notification/authorization services timely to avoid unnecessary delays in treatment and reduce excessive nonclinical administrative time required of providers. 5. Submits pertinent demographic and supporting clinical data to payor to request approval for services being rendered. + General responsibilities: + 1. Maintains compliance with departmental quality standards and productivity measures. + 2. Works collaboratively with internal and external contacts specifically, Physician Services and Hospital Division, across UPMC as well as payors to enhance customer satisfaction and process compliance, ensuring the seamless coordination of work and to avoid a negative financial impact. + 3. Utilizes 18+ UPMC system and insurance payor or contracted provider web sites to perform prior authorization, edit, and denial services. + 4. Utilize authorization resources along with any other applicable reference material to obtain accurate prior authorization. + Retrospective authorization responsibilities + 1. Resolves basic authorization edits to ensure timely claim filing and elimination of payor rejections and or denials. + High School diploma or equivalent with 2 years working experience in a medical environment (such as a hospital, doctor's office, or ambulatory clinic) + OR an Associate's degree and 1 year of experience in a medical environment required.
