Surgical Technologists, sometimes called "scrub techs," assist with procedures under the supervision of surgeons and RNs, helping ensure quality patient care before, during and after the operative procedure. A caregiver in this position works days from 7:00 a.m. - 7:30 p.m. + on-call requirements.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
* Perform scrub functions and assist in circulating functions under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN).
* Set up the sterile table and ensure appropriate supplies, drugs and equipment are available.
* Assists RN in counting all sponges, instruments, etc. at appropriate times during surgery.
* Assist in gowning and gloving surgical team members and draping patients.
* Ensure aseptic condition is maintained by the scrubbed surgical team through the procedure.
* Participate in the intraoperative "timeout."
* Collect, identify and label specimens removed during surgical procedures and gives specimens to circulator for disposition.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
* Successful completion of a Surgical Technology Program accredited through CCAAHEP or ABHES OR Certification as a Surgical Technologist (TS-C or CST) OR completion of a military Surgical Technology Program OR state license as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
* Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
* Surgical Technologist Certification from an accredited Surgical Technology Program

Their depth and breadth of experience allows them to perform complex operations while using the newest surgical techniques, equipment and devices. Surgical Technicians, sometimes called "scrub techs", assist in surgical procedures under the supervision of surgeons and registered nurses and ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and maintaining a sterile field. In this role, you will perform a variety of tasks, such as checking supplies and equipment, setting up sterile tables, passing instruments to the surgeon and sterilizing instruments after procedures. A caregiver in this position works 7:00am-3:30pm or 6:30am-3:00pm.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
* Perform scrub functions and assist in circulating functions under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN).
* Set up the sterile table and ensure appropriate supplies, drugs and equipment are available.
* Assists RN in counting all sponges, instruments, etc. at appropriate times during surgery.
* Assist in gowning and gloving surgical team members and draping patients.
* Ensure aseptic condition is maintained by the scrubbed surgical team through the procedure.
* Participate in the intraoperative "timeout."
* Collect, identify and label specimens removed during surgical procedures and gives specimens to circulator for disposition.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
* Successful completion of a Surgical Technology Program accredited through CCAAHEP or ABHES OR Certification as a Surgical Technologist (TS-C or CST) OR completion of a military Surgical Technology Program
* Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
