In 1824 he had a boat built carrying some 28 tons as far as Reading.
The project was completed in 1826.
In 1842-43 alterations were made in the various locks to permit of the passage of boats of greater tonnage and river channel improved below Manayunk at a cost of many thousands of dollars.
Another ice freshet occurred in the winter of 1872 but pass off without any great amount of damage.
Over the summer months in 2001, a group of volunteers took on the project of transcribing this text which is presented below.
