About the Medical Assistant Role
Upperline Health is seeking an energetic, compassionate, and driven Medical Assistant to assist our physicians in delivering complex health services in the clinic setting. This person will work in our Lake Nona office and will be responsible for supporting the physician with a range of clinical and administrative tasks. Responsibilities will be varied, and candidates must be flexible problem solvers and collaborative team players who are eager to learn as well as tackle problems. Ideal candidates will have podiatry or orthopedic experience and x-ray experience.
Medical Assistant Responsibilities:
* Place patients in exam rooms, ensuring that they are ready and comfortable for their appointment with the physician
* Complete exam intake, including but not limited to, reviewing the patient's medical history, social history, surgical history, and the history of present illness
* Conduct health assessments and complete visits with Upperline Plus patients being seen in our Podiatry Clinics
* Telephonic outreach and engagement with Upperline Plus patients to coordinate ongoing preventative care
* Care coordination activities as assigned by Upperline Plus Nurse Practitioner including, but not limited to, medical records requests, order management, appointment scheduling, managing patient care referrals, etc.
* Ensure accurate charting for the physician
* Provide patient care under the direction of a podiatric physician including taking and developing x-rays and assisting in the exam room as required
* Perform daily administrative tasks such as stocking all exam rooms and disposing of exam room trash
* Responsible for cleaning and sterilizing exam and x-ray rooms both after each patient visit and at the end of each day
* Sterilize instruments daily
* Satisfy and document appropriately required quality measures and audits
* Identify community resources and assisting Upperline's patients and families in accessing those resources
* Travel to surrounding area clinics to provide support if needed
* Support the connection of our patients to our extended care team of Nurse Practitioners and Care Navigators, where and when needed
Medical Assistant Qualifications:
* Previous experience as a Medical Assistant; MA Certification is a plus
* Podiatry or Orthopedic clinic experience preferred
* X-ray experience is a plus
* Clinical care coordination or care management experience is ideal
* Previous experience assisting or providing care to the adult - geriatric patient population is preferred
* Excellent computer skills and strong knowledge of medical terminology
* Previous experience working in an EMR - preferably athenahealth EMR
* Must be an effective communicator with excellent grammar and interpersonal skills
* Exceptional customer service orientation featuring an empathetic, compassionate, and professional demeanor with each interaction
* Demonstrated experience as a motivated and dedicated team member with a stable work history
* Reliable transportation and the ability to pass a background check and drug test is required
* Excellent oral and written communication skills to ensure that each of your interactions with patients, family caregivers, clinicians, and team members is effective and meaningful

Maintain inventory to ensure adequate supplies in the dental department, submitting orders to distributor for approval by Dental Director or designee.
Assist with referrals and predeterminations with appropriate insurance plan.
Communicates insurance benefits and patient financial responsibility to patients
Collaborate with insurance predetermination of benefits with dental biller.
Follow Infection Control guidelines and protocols according to CAN's exposure and control plan.
Maintain OSHA standards regarding handling and removal of bio-hazardous waste, including bags and Sharps containers.
Prepares, sterilizes, organizes, and sets up dental equipment, ensures that all dental instruments are cleaned, dated, and processed according to established clinic protocol and CDC, OSHA, ADA, state, and county standards.
Provides chair side assistance to dentist in the performance of dental procedures, to include operative, preventive, periodontal, endodontic, prosthetic and/or oral surgical procedures.
Perform a preliminary examination; blood pressure and pulse, recording the reading in the EMR.
Taking and recording medical and dental histories in the EMR, including a second COVID screening and vaccination.
Obtains and processes dental radiographs per dental provider orders, follows the radiograph workflow to upload in EMR.

Documents clinically related activities accurately in the patient's EMR; performs required patient follow-up: to include pap smears Pb levels HIV mammograms and STD's. Collects and processes specimens completes requisitions and documents in logbook or other applicable forms/records.
Provides escort for patients and assists with patient discharge activities. Provides chaperoning for patients per policy.
Fulfills infection prevention and environmental responsibilities as assigned which many include: Light cleaning during clinic hours and cleaning of equipment. Updates appropriate records of scheduled equipment maintenance and manages drug and medical supply inventories.
Provides telephone screening services to gather information from patients determine appropriate disposition and document per established telephone screening protocols.
Under onsite provider supervision may insert intravenous catheter for physician initiated IV fluid therapy or administration of intravenous medications. Under direct onsite physician supervision may insert remove and monitor urinary catheter for procedures and prepare and administer oral drugs and injections limited to intradermal subcutaneous and intramuscular. May perform phlebotomy.
Utilizes the EMR to propose patient medication refills for provider approval. Completes requisitions for tests (if applicable). Contacts insurance companies for Pre-authorizations for patient medications and specialty referrals including insurance authorization.
Floats to other sites/locations within the system as appropriate and performs all duties at multiple sites.
Attends scheduled meetings including but not limited to regular staff meetings and training classes for safety infection control OSHA CLIA BLS and others as required.

Minimal Qualifications
Education
High School Diploma or GED required and
Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred
Experience
Less than 1 year 6 months experience working in an ambulatory care medical office or equivalent required. Externship in a medical or ambulatory health setting strongly preferred. Completed externship program at medstar health may be substituted for the 6 months experience in ambulatory care medical office. required and

About the Medical Assistant Role
