Position Summary
The Department of Systems Biology, Korem Lab, is seeking a full-time, temporary Research Associate to join its team. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research focused on understanding complex biological systems. The focus of this role s on developing methodology for inference of mutations in microbiome data and requires expertise in Bayesian inference. The Research Associate will support day-to-day lab operations, assist with experimental workflows, and help maintain the high standards of organization and quality that drive the lab's scientific mission.
Responsibilities
* Conduct computational and statistical research focused on the inference of mutational signatures in microbiome sequencing data, with an emphasis on identifying environmental exposures associated with prematurity.
* Apply Bayesian inference methods and probabilistic modeling techniques to analyze large-scale, high-dimensional biological datasets.
* Develop, document, and maintain reproducible, well-tested code and workflows suitable for dissemination to the broader academic and scientific community.
* Contribute to the preparation of manuscripts and grant applications by drafting methods, results, and supporting materials as needed.
* Collaborate closely with principal investigator, postdocs, and other lab members to integrate computational methods with experimental and clinical data.
* Perform other related duties as assigned to support the lab's research mission and operational needs.

- Manage Amazon Mechanical Turk/Prolific online experiment overhead (up to 10,000 participants per study)
- Manage lab computer backups, ensure scanner data transfer, perform data curation

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Bachelor's Degree (BS/BA) in Psychology, Neuroscience, Cognitive Science, Computer Science, or related field.
- Min 1-year research experience OR undergraduate honors thesis
- Proficiency in Matlab or Python; familiarity with the other
Preferred:
- 2+ yrs research experience with human subjects.
- Experience with shell/scripting languages (e.g., bash, JavaScript) and data management tools (e.g., Git)

+ Communicate with the animal resource department and UCAR on animal colony matters and serve as an emergency contact for animal care staff.
+ Operate, maintain and use the lab equipment and the resources of the laboratory in an efficient and safe manner.
+ Assist _in-vivo_ aseptic animal surgeries, behavior assessments, electrophysiology recording and maintains accurate records.
+ Orders supplies, overall maintain the order and cleanliness of the lab.
+ Helps to maintain documentation of Lab Safety in compliance with university policy requirements.
+ Keep inventory of chemicals on Chematix.
+ Ensure that approved procedures for proper disposal of all hazardous wastes are followed.
+ Keeps abreast of the field of neuroscience by reading journal articles, attending laboratory meetings, and attending relevant University seminars.
+ Maintains detailed lab journal.
+ Records and calculates results.
+ Presents data in prescribed formats.
+ Uses input from PI and lab members to trouble shoot experiments and equipment malfunctions.
+ Performs general laboratory duties such as preparing reagents and re-stocking supplies and inventory maintenance.
+ Helps to ensure laboratory compliance for biosafety, EHS and fire inspections.
