The principal function of the postdoc is to contribute to configuring an Environmental Fluid Dynamics Code (EFDC) water quality model for the South Florida region and use this model to simulate and analyze past and projected regional patterns, with a focus on net primary production and subsequent carbon transport and settlement rates in and out of Biscayne Bay. The outputs of the coastal model will be used to characterize climate change impacts on water quality and carbon transport in and out of the estuary. Addition to the modeling efforts, the position will also have the tasks of constructing literature reviews and providing carbon data input for NOAA databases. The postdoc will be based at the NOAA's Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory (AOML) in Miami, Florida. She/he will be part of a multidisciplinary team, which includes researchers at NOAA, Mississippi State University, University of Miami, University of South Florida, Virginia Institute of Marine Sciences, Fish and Wildlife Research Institute, and Southeast Coastal Ocean Observing Regional Association.

Additionally, the project will employ machine learning techniques (specifically neural networks), so expertise or experience working with these systems is desirable. Experience with operational meteorology is a plus as well.

Department Profile:
The Northern Gulf Institute (NGI) is a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Cooperative Institute comprised of six academic institutions that are geographically distributed across the U.S. Gulf Coast states. The six NGI member institutions are Mississippi State University (lead), the University of Southern Mississippi, Florida State University, Louisiana State University, the University of Alabama in Huntsville, and the Dauphin Island Sea Laboratory. Together with NOAA and in support of their strategic plan, NGI conducts research on interconnections among Gulf of Mexico environments, habitats, resources, and people and engages in outreach to help others learn about and make decisions based on these interconnections.
Area of Specialization:
Subseasonal Atlantic Tropical Cyclone Forecasting
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Quantify and evaluate microphysics conditions within tropical cyclone observations and dynamic model simulations.
•Develop and evaluate statistical and machine learning models (e.g., neural networks) that characterize microphysics processes within tropical cyclones.
•Collaborate with NOAA and university researchers across disciplines.
•Present findings at scientific conferences and publish results in peer-reviewed journals.
Minimum Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science, Climate Science, Meteorology, Oceanography, Data Science, or a related field by the start date, with at least one year of relevant experience in atmospheric science research.
•Strong understanding of cloud microphysics within numerical weather prediction systems.
•Experience with dynamic modeling, especially the HAFS model.
•Demonstrated experience with statistical modeling and/or machine learning techniques, with a preference for neural network-based methods.
•Proficiency in scientific programming languages (e.g., Python, R, MATLAB).
•Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with large atmospheric and oceanic datasets.
•Familiarity with tropical cyclone dynamics and prediction.
•Experience in collaborative, interdisciplinary research environments.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge in numerical weather prediction systems is required. The ideal applicant would need to know how to navigate the Linux environment and understand navigating big data within atmospheric science. Additionally, applicants should be familiar with common machine learning techniques utilized within atmospheric science, including but not limited to artificial neural networks and kernel methods.

Job Description
Position: Maintenance Technician
Location: Tampa, FL
Primary Responsibilities: The Maintenance Technician is primarily responsible addressing post-occupancy repair/renovation and maintenance issues.
Skills & Competencies:
3+ years of maintenance experience
Knowledge of all types of construction repairs and renovation
HVAC, plumbing, electrical knowledge (preferred)
Fair Housing Certification (preferred, or willing to obtain)
HVAC Certification (preferred)
Strong customer service and organizational skills
Ability to utilize technology (computer, iPad) to communicate effectively and schedule appointments
Microsoft Office Suite experience preferred
Valid Driver's License
Reliable transportation - employee is responsible for using personal transportation to pick up supplies and drive to job sites
Handyman tools are required
Essential Job Functions:
Assists in all aspects of the property's maintenance including preventative, corrective, deferred and emergency maintenance.
Address post-occupancy repair/renovation and maintenance issues. Work in tandem with the local property management team under the supervision of the Maintenance Manager.
Address punch lists and correct additional deficiencies in occupied properties.
Complete work orders in a timely manner and send reports to direct supervisor.
Key metrics include work orders completed on a daily and weekly basis, number of rescheduled appointments, number of repeat visits to fix the same issue, and customer satisfaction.
Observes safety and security procedures. Determines appropriate action beyond guidelines.
Be kind, understanding and empathetic of resident complaints and maintenance requests.
Conduct yourself in courteous and professional manner at all times.
Uses equipment and materials properly and as required under OSHA Requirements.
Reports potentially unsafe conditions to management
Other duties, as assigned by supervisor or leadership team.

Physical Requirements
