1945

He became interested in studying and researching prostate and bladder tumors, which led him to design the first Iglesias Resectoscope in 1945.

1946

Doctor George Strong coauthored the historic “Jewett-Strong” classification with Doctor Jewett in 1946.

1948

“Intubated ureterotomy: Experimental work and clinical results” won the first prize at the AUA and was published in the May 1948 Journal of Urology.

1949

In 1949, with A.A. Marchetti, a gynecologist, and K.E. Krantz, then a resident, Doctor Marshall developed a procedure to treat stress urinary incontinence.

1953

Doctor Drake obtained a United States patent for the device, entitled "Uroflometer" in 1953.

1957

At Washington University in St Louis, she began doing infertility research, and began working with William H. Masters in 1957.

1966

Ralph Landes, MD, head of urology at Danville, VA., succeeded Wirt Dakin, MD as AUA Historian in 1966.

1969

The roots of Mystic Valley Urology date back to 1969 when three urologists merged a Tufts academic urologic practice with a private practice based in Winchester.

1971

The Grayhack lab is enhanced by the recruitment of endocrinologist Chung Lee, PhD. Doctor Lee arrives at Northwestern in 1971 to conduct endocrinology research in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

In 1971, after having proposed the creation of a urological museum at the AUA headquarters, Didusch was honored at a testimonial dinner, the proceeds of which founded a new museum named after him—the William P. Didusch Museum of the American Urological Association. more

1972

In July 1972, Doctor Hock donated a large collection of numerous instruments—including cystoscopes, lithotritors, catheters and resectoscopes—to the newly created William P. Didusch Museum. more

1974

In 1974, Doctor Grayhack recruits him to the Department of Urology as an assistant professor and director of the Urology Research Laboratory.

1976

Doctor Schaeffer comes to Northwestern as an assistant professor in 1976 and becomes an AUA Scholar upon his arrival.

1977

Nation served as president of the American Urological Association in 1977.

John C. Atwood, daughter of Eugene Fuller; this correspondence eventually led to the establishment of the triennial Fuller Award in 1977. more

1980

He establishes a research laboratory and by 1980 has achieved NIH funding.

1983

First report of ureteroscopic ultrasonic lithotripsy, by Doctor Bagley in 1983.

1985

First report of endoscopic recanalization of the obliterated upper urinary tract, by Doctor Bagley in 1985.

1987

First report of ureteroscopy performed under local anesthesia, by Doctor Bagley in 1987.

1988

Doctor Lichtwardt was a fellow at the American College of Surgeons, held many posts including president of the North Central Section of the AUA, served on numerous committees for the national AUA and became the AUA Historian 1988.

1990

First report of electroejaculatory stimulation of a quadriplegic man resulting in pregnancy, by Doctor Hirsch in 1990.

1991

First formal Urological Laparoscopy Programs in Philadelphia in 1991.

1992

First use of RT-PCR to identify circulating cells in prostate cancer patients, 1992, by Drs.

1994

Board of Trustees appointed Doctor L. G. Gomella the first Bernard W. Godwin Associate Professor in Prostate Cancer in 1994, the first prostate cancer specific chair in the United States

1995

First report of endoluminal ultrasound of the ureter, by Doctor Bagley in 1995.

1996

First Multidisciplinary GU Cancer Center, Kimmel Cancer Center, established in 1996, by Doctor Gomella and associates.

1997

First Microwave Thermotherapy Unit in the Delaware Valley at the Pennsylvania Prostate Center at Jefferson in 1997.

2006

Sakti Das, MD, FACS became the AUA historian in 2006.

2019

In July 2019, Mystic Valley Urology joined Winchester Physician Associates, a member of Beth Israel Lahey Health.
