    DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS CITY OF WORCESTER The City of Worcester is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Signal Maintainer Traffic for the Street Operations Division within the Department of Public Works. Under the direction of the Supervisor of Traffic Maintenance, the position will be responsible for the management, maintenance, repair and improvement of the City of Worcester's traffic signals. The responsibilities of this position will include repairs, replacements, preventive maintenance and emergency maintenance on signal equipment. ESSENTIAL TASKS: Provide emergency maintenance to repair traffic signals Review traffic signals on a cyclical basis to identify work issues that need to be repaired immediately or to be scheduled Oversee signal programming such as testing the cabinet, programming the controller for signal timings, checking the signal coordination settings, programming conflict monitors, setting up signals and updating information in the central database Install software, attachment hardware, connection cables, replacement parts and more Set up and install radios, switches, and cell modems Coordinate utility services such as setting up electric service, coordinating for attachment agreements, and calling for locates Perform safety reviews for vehicles, including buckets are operational and equipped with safety harnesses and tethers Oversee signal construction which includes installing conduit and splice boxes, electric cable using messenger/span wire, foundations for cabinets and steel poles, saw-cutting and loop wire for inductive vehicle detection, wood poles and guy cables, and pedestrian poles, buttons, and pedestrian heads SECONDARY ELEMENTS: Attend trainings, workshops and seminars related to signal maintenance certifications and the upkeep of certifications/licenses/credentials Maintain awareness of new developments in traffic signal hardware and software technology REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Basic knowledge of the operation and components of traffic signals, including controllers, detectors and wiring Knowledge of traffic signal timing and control strategies Knowledgeable with installation methods of signal equipment including software, replacement parts, attachment hardware, connection cables, warranties and testing equipment Ability to serve as a liaison between technical and non-technical staff and ability to determine project scheduling and technology planning Knowledge of relevant federal, state, and local traffic regulations Ability to recognize hazardous situations and adhere to safety regulations, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and traffic safety protocols Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaborate effectively as part of a team Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting heavy objects, climbing, and working in adverse weather conditions Skill in using diagnostic tools to assess and repair traffic signal equipment Ability to maintain a professional attitude and interact respectfully with the public and other city personnel, particularly when addressing complaints or inquiries about traffic signals MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or equivalent One (1) year of experience in the maintenance, installation or repair of traffic signals, electrical systems or related fields Excellent written and verbal communication Valid Driver's License PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Vocational training or certification in electronics, electrical systems or traffic signal technology Massachusetts System Technician License Three (3) years of experience in the maintenance, installation or repair of traffic signals, electrical systems or related fields SALARY RANGE: $28.09 - $34.07 hourly, full-time, with an excellent benefits package. Performs park repair and fabrication tasks including carpentry, welding, and concrete; builds and repairs park facilities, structures, and components; estimates material requirements for projects; assists with setup and takedown for special events; maintains and operates tools and equipment according to PRD standards. Utilizes proper safety precautions in all work performed; reports problems and emergency situations; recognizes, avoids, and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents, and injuries. Supports the departmental operations with regular and timely attendance. Supports the relationship between the City of Odessa and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Education, Training and Experience Guidelines: High school diploma or GED required. General maintenance, construction, or welding experience desired. Knowledge of: PRD safety policies and procedures, and federal and state building codes and safety regulations. Materials, methods, tools, and equipment used in parks maintenance. Skill in: Safe and efficient operation and maintenance of tools and equipment. Reading blueprints, and following standard operating and safety procedures. Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers. License and certification requirements: A valid Texas State Driver's License is required. Physical demands and working environment: Work is performed indoors, outdoors, and at City facilities; requires constant physical efforts, and the ability to bend, reach, stoop, and lift objects; may be exposed to safety hazards and dangerous tools and equipment; safety precautions must be followed, including use of safety equipment. City approved safety shoes must be worn.
