Texas Oncology is seeking a full-time Clinical Medical Physicist (M.S. or Ph.D) located at the S. Austin, TX clinic at 4101 James Casey St #100 Austin, Texas 78745. Texas Oncology is seeking qualified candidates for an exciting Radiation Oncology Medical Physicist position. The successful candidate will be part of a physics group consisting of 13 physicists, 2 physics residents, a medical physics assistant, and 15 dosimetrists covering eight facilities in the Central Texas area. This group supports nine radiation oncologists in a busy practice setting. The position will primarily provide medical physics coverage for the South Austin Cancer Center, working with two other onsite physicists, three dosimetrists, seven therapists, and two radiation oncologists.
With more than 600 physicians and over 220 sites of service Texas Oncology is a pioneer in community-based cancer treatment and is united in healing with US Oncology, one of the country's foremost cancer treatment and research networks. The South Austin clinic houses two Varian iX linacs, Elekta HDR, very busy SBRT, SRS, and TBI programs, therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals, and TSET. Treatment planning is performed in Eclipse and Elements. The center will be replacing one iX with a Truebeam this year.

What does the position do?

Qualifications

Under general supervision, is responsible for the coordination and administration of all CT/MRI radiologic exams; ensures technical quality and timely reporting of results. * Assists with performing phlebotomy and collecting appropriate specimens from patients as ordered. Assures pre-authorization and completes appropriate consent forms (ABN) prior to collection of limited coverage tests.
* Assists with special procedures as needed (i.e. bone marrows in the room).
* Follows the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient results.
* Performs specimen analysis of all Chemistry, Hematology and Immunology specimens.
* Maintains and operates all laboratory equipment. Performs daily, weekly and monthly instrument maintenance as indicated.
* Adheres to the laboratory's quality control policies and documents all QC activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and instrument maintenance. Records proper lot numbers of all controls, calibrators, and reagents.
* Participates in proficiency testing by performing sample analysis and reporting results at least once a year.
* Prepares peripheral blood smear and competently performs complete WBC differential on normal and abnormal smears.
* Performs microscopic examination of urinary sediment.
* Records results on appropriate worksheet and computer system and performs file maintenance. Processes specimens for send-out testing.
* Follows the laboratory's policies whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance. Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either corrects the problem or notifies supervisor. Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.
* Maintains proper documentation as described by the quality assurance program including accessioning logs, test report logs, quality control logs, equipment records and checklists. Verifies all critical results and documents with accurate follow-up.
* Maintains adequate inventory of supplies and ensures that all supplies are viable before using in patient testing. Prepares reagents, stains and other chemical solutions as needed. Restocks the laboratory area as needed.
* Sends specimens to reference laboratories for any testing not performed in house.
* Processes incoming orders for lab testing including reference laboratory specimens.
* Processes in-house and in-coming results for charting.
* Charts patient results in a timely manner as needed.
* Properly identify and band patients for blood product transfusion. Processes properly labeled specimens according to local bloodbank policy.

What does the Pharmacy Technician (IV Admixture) do? (including by not limited to)
Under direct supervision of a physician working within a clinic admixture room, performs the technical, nonjudgmental aspects of medication preparation. With minimal supervision, responsible for record keeping and inventory control. Tasks are subject to sequential or final verification by a registered nurse or a registered pharmacist. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards. Texas Oncology is looking for a Medical Assistant (MA) to join our team! This full time position will support the Radiation Oncology department at the Central Austin location (6204 Balcones Austin, Texas 78731). This is a full-time Monday-Friday 8:30am-5pm position with no weekends, call, or major holidays.
This position will be either a level 1, 2 or Sr based on candidate experience.

What does the Radiation Oncology Medical Assistant do? (Including but not limited to)
Under direct supervision, assists physicians and clinicians with patient care duties in a clinical environment. Promotes efficient patient flow and patient care, i.e. exams, and procedures. Performs clinic support tasks including miscellaneous clerical tasks, answering phones, and maintaining physicians schedule. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.
Responsibilities
The essential duties and responsibilities (including but not limited to):
* Escorts patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment room as appropriate.
* Records patient data prior to each physician visit, including but not limited to, vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
* Obtains all necessary patient records as required by physician prior to treatment or procedures.
* Prepares and stocks exam/treatment rooms and orders supplies as needed.
* Assists physicians with exams and procedures as requested.
* Administers subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, as delegated by RN or physician.
* Maintains all exam/treatment room disinfection protocols.
* Answers patient telephone calls for referral to physician or nurse/pharmacist.
* Phones in prescriptions and makes other patient calls as directed by physicians and RN.
* Informs physician of patient reschedules and no shows.
* Performs other administrative duties, i.e. typing, filing faxing, chart preparation, reception, etc, as requested by supervisor or physician.
* May enter orders under a provider's direction and supervision.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate for the Radiation Oncology Medical Assistant position will have the following background and experience:
Level 1
* High school graduate or equivalent.
* This is an entry level position requiring 0-3 years experience as a medical assistant or nursing assistant.
* Current BCLS certification required within 3 months of hire.
* Certified Medical Assistant preferred.
Level 2 (in addition to level 1 requirements)
* Minimum three years experience as a medical assistant or nursing assistant.
* Phlebotomy experience preferred.
Level Sr (in addition to Level 1 and 2 requirements)
* Minimum five years experience as a medical assistant or nursing assistant in a hospital or clinic setting.
* Current CPR certification required.

What does the Lab Supervisor do? (including but not limited to)
Responsible for the efficient operation of a moderate or high complexity laboratory facility. Ensures accurate and timely testing procedures. Assures compliance with applicable regulations regarding laboratory operations. Participates in site specific daily operations, communications and patient flow. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.
Responsibilities
The essential duties and responsibilities (including but not limited to):
* Acts as working general supervisor for the laboratory. Performs routine tests as required and develops knowledge of more complex tests to perform as needed.
* Supervises laboratory personnel. Evaluates qualifications of potential employees; interviews and hires; monitors and evaluates performance. Trains or assigns training of lab personnel. Provides for continuing education program and monitors employee participation. Schedules laboratory personnel. Directly supervises day to day testing and reporting.
* Establishes and monitors quality assurance, quality control, proficiency testing and routine maintenance policies and procedures.
* Establishes and monitors policies and procedures for overall testing performance. Select, evaluates, and validates all test methods. Writes new test procedures and maintains a current procedure manual.
* Reviews patient test results, quality control, proficiency testing and maintenance records. Ensures that patient test results are not reported until all corrective actions have been taken and the test system is properly functioning.
* Maintains awareness of and compliance with state and federal regulations regarding laboratory operations and licensing.
* Maintains awareness of and compliance with state and federal OSHA regulations and other safety regulations. Enforces safety standards. Maintains employee health records when mandated.
* Orders supplies and equipment. Evaluates new equipment and reagents for technical suitability and cost effectiveness. Performs cost analysis on major equipment purchases.
* Analyzes true cost of providing individual tests and other laboratory services. Recommends pricing of tests and other services based on this analysis.
* Interfaces with other disciplines (i.e. nursing, clerical) to ensure a smoothly functioning and efficient operation.
* Maintains a clean working environment and restocks the laboratory area as needed.
* Maintains confidentially of all information related to patients and medical staff.
* Assists management in budgeting, cost analysis, marketing, and managed care contracts.
* Participates in site specific daily operations, communications and patient flow.
* Demonstrates working knowledge of applicable labor laws.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate for the Lab Supervisor position will have the following background and experience:
* Associates degree in Medical Technology or related science field, Bachelors degree in Medical Technology preferred. Or relevant equivalent experience.
* Four (4) years of related work experience.
* Minimum five years experience in laboratory testing.
* ASCP or equivalent certification required.
* Current state licensure if required.
* Previous supervisory experience preferred.

What does the Nurse Supervisor do?
Coordinates all activities related to nursing functions and patient care, within budgetary constraints. Adheres to national and company standards and guidelines for specialty regulations. Supervises nursing staff that provides professional nursing care to patients. Must recognize physical, psychological, and spiritual aspects of care. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

* Clinical Oversight
* Oversees the clinical operations for all nursing clinical support activities.
* Ensure adequate staffing/FTEs for assigned clinics
* Maintains effective nursing staff coverage and operating costs for the practice and/or satellites within budgetary parameters.
* Ensure clinical operations and practice consistent with organizational objectives
* Monitors and evaluates patient satisfaction and quality assurance measures.
* Staff Development
* Coordinates, implements, and assists with staff training, in-services, and internal developmental programs for nursing staff.
* Assists with annual performance evaluations for nursing department staff.
* Serves as mentor/preceptor and provides day to day guidance to less experienced nurses.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate for the Nurse Supervisor will have the following background and experience:
* Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, BSN or MSN preferred.
* RN state license and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state.
* Minimum 5 year actively practicing as a registered nurse, including at least 3 years in oncology.
* Current CPR certification required.
* 1 years of leadership experience preferred.
* Current or pending oncology certification preferred.
* Chemotherapy Immunotherapy provider card preferred.
