In the mid-1880’s, paint factories began springing up in population and industrial centers across the nation.

1929

Though metallics have been with us since the 1929 DeSoto with the first production metallic paint job appeared, the size of the flakes and the medium they’re suspended in have changed greatly in recent times.

1978

However, it was not until 1978 that the United States finally banned lead paint from being sold in the market.

Lead-based paints used to be popular because of its durability, but were also notorious for being toxic. It wasn’t until 1978 that the US finally prohibited the use and sale of lead-based paints.

2011

Writer Mike West, a contributing editor to BodyShop Business, retired and closed his shop in Seattle, Wash., on July 1, 2011, after more than 40 years in collision repair.

2014

In 2014, total sales for paint were approximately 22 billion dollars.

2019

Total value of product shipments for the industry were approximately $26.4 billion in 2019.
