Job Description:
U.S. Pipe and Foundry is seeking a Production Supervisor. The successful candidate will play a key role in leading the production operations in the assigned department through the daily execution of processes and procedures. Ensuring the effective supervision of the assigned hourly employees engaged in the production process and focusing on safety, people, production, quality, and delivery standards of U.S. Pipe and Foundry.
Essential Functions:
Leads the work of hourly production employees to ensure that working procedures are followed in a manner that provides safe operation while maximizing quality and productivity as well as managing labor cost.
Ensures that daily production schedules are met, and if not, captures the reasons for missing the daily plan.
Uses daily Leader Standard Work to manage the process and quickly identify process deviations.
Uses root cause analysis to determine action items to prevent reoccurrence of issues that cause gaps to standards.
Must have experience in working on mechanical equipment/tooling.
Should have the ability to trouble shoot/diagnose mechanical problems - especially on the Core making equipment.
To supervise both production and craft employees to ensure quality cores are made, tooling is properly maintained and check at appropriate intervals.
Ensures that work is conducted safely, that safety rules are adhered to, and that work areas are maintained in a safe and orderly fashion.
Conducts regular area safety inspections and 5S audits.
Investigates incidents fully and documents in the accident investigation system in a timely manner.
Ensures that any corrective actions that arise from accident investigations are implemented in a timely manner.
Communicates frequently with crew members to maintain awareness regarding unsafe conditions and behaviors.
Maintains open communication with assigned crew on a daily basis to address any safety, quality, production, maintenance, housekeeping, or personnel issues.
Uses Key Performance Indicator (KPI) data to understand sources for driving performance and work on improvements when results are not meeting targets.
Ensures that production equipment is set up properly and is maintained in good operating condition.
Ensures that all material and equipment required to perform daily work is available.
Maintains direct contact with maintenance supervisors to communicate equipment conditions and to aid in developing a priority for maintenance activities.
Develops and executes a documented plan to make sure assigned hourly employees are properly trained and qualified to perform their assigned position within their job classification.
Works with Area Manager and Continuous Improvement personnel to identify, document, communicate, and implement process improvements, including participation in and sustaining 5S and Kaizen improvements.
Fills in for other Production Supervisors when needed for vacation, planned outage or any other scenario. Fill in work can be on any shift.
Perform other duties as assigned
Skills and Other Requirements:
Minimum of 5 years previous supervisory or management experience in a heavy union or non-union fast paced manufacturing and/or construction environment is required.
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering such as Industrial, Electrical. Mechanical and Manufacturing and/or related field desired.
Previous ductile iron products experience with a good understanding of production operations or similar manufacturing operation is a plus.
Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma experience is a plus.
Foundry experience highly desired.

At the direction of the Purchasing Manager, the ideal candidate will be responsible for purchasing materials, supplies and services in accordance with prescribed purchasing procedures and performing various related tasks in support of plant operations.
Specific Responsibilities:
* Examine purchase requests and determine the most cost-effective method for processing based on cost, time requirements, open contracts and competitive bidding.
* Identifies and selects vendors to procure required materials, negotiating for best price, satisfying quantity, quality and delivery date requirements.
* Creates and issues purchase orders/scrap POs to vendors in accordance with company procedures.
* Tracks open purchase orders against production demands and coordinates with vendors to ensure materials and services are delivered in a timely manner.
* Develops and maintains a list of approved vendors, ensuring their compliance with standard company requirements.
* Controls the inventory management process of raw materials required for plant operations.

About the Role:
U.S. Pipe and Foundry is seeking talent to join our Engineering Team as a Metallurgist. This position provides technical guidance to Operations in the areas of melting, casting and heat treatment for the production and processing of ductile iron pipe. The candidate must be able to relocate to Birmingham, Alabama.
Specific Responsibilities:
Involved in all phases of the iron melting, processing, holding and casting operations.
Providing input on Alloy selection, raw material inspection, storage and usage, Refractory selection, application and use.
Delivering iron having close temperature and chemical composition tolerances done at or below budgeted cost.
Chemical analyses techniques and determining the proper metallic mix for melting and proper alloy additions.
On all phases of the casting process including mold condition, machine condition, machine set-up, alloy additions and pipe handling.
On all phases of the annealing process including temperature control, oven variables, and oven condition.
Reviewing operating reports, evaluating cost data, the type and quantity of pipe produced, defectives, etc., to determine corrective actions needed.
Works closely with Operations personnel to discuss problems and recommends solutions.
Take corrective actions as required.
Evaluates new alloys and materials; develops new processes and procedures as well as training on their use.
Recommends and explains benefits of new technology to plant management for evaluation.
Assists in Training on the Technical aspects of the processes in use.
Performs other related duties as required.
Skills and Qualifications:
College graduate with a degree in Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science or five to seven years' experience in the application of this knowledge to activities, such as supervision, safety, technical know-how and labor relations.
Familiarity with coreless and channel electric melting processes.
Experience in interpreting the metallography of the iron to determine compliance to process parameters and changes required, assess the quality of welds, and other issues that may arise.
Possesses the ability to train the metallurgical aspects of the operations.

Manages and directs the work of maintenance supervisors and maintenance hourly employees in the repair and maintenance of machinery and equipment.

Assists supervisors in evaluating the efficiency of working procedures, workforce utilization and cost control measures.
Reviews and assists Maintenance Manager with the approval of job bids, contract labor and the purchase of material and equipment that are not standard store items.

Considers all safety precautions and the proper isolation of circuits to cause a minimum of interference to operations.
Determines necessary tools and equipment.
Plans and performs work requiring a thorough working knowledge of electrical principles, wiring specification codes, properties of various materials, and principles of operation and application of equipment.
Locates source of trouble of any type of electrical equipment by tracing and testing circuits and inspecting for faulty operation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct safety training within the department for all shifts including Daily Safety Huddles, Weekly Single Points, Monthly Safety Meeting and EHS Alerts.
Conduct regular safety and housekeeping audits within the department.
Discuss findings from audit with both Department Supervisor and Safety.
Work with Safety to ensure deficiencies are addressed in a timely manner.
Perform safety walks throughout the shift and observe performance of job tasks to ensure safe job procedures are being followed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The primary purpose is to execute the quality plans as developed, ensure the Quality Management System (QMS) remains compliant through auditing, develop & lead the internal audits at the Alabama Works, manage the Corrective Action Response Process, train supervisors on the QMS. Essential Functions:

This position is responsible for the daily management of maintenance functions at the including the supervision of maintenance supervisors. Ensures that plant machinery, equipment and molds are in proper and safe operating condition and is an active participant in the planning and construction of new equipment and facilities and modifications to existing equipment and facilities. Work closely with the Maintenance Manager to conduct the daily maintenance operations.
Specific Responsibilities:
Manages and directs the work of maintenance supervisors and maintenance hourly employees in the repair and maintenance of machinery and equipment.
Assists the Maintenance Manager maintaining the capital forecast needed for the maintenance department.
Assists supervisors in evaluating the efficiency of working procedures, workforce utilization and cost control measures.
Reviews and assists Maintenance Manager with the approval of job bids, contract labor and the purchase of material and equipment that are not standard store items.
Assures departmental employees have required materials and supplies, particularly safety equipment.
Monitors usage to assure adequate supply and control costs.
Generates necessary written and/or verbal reports as designated by the Maintenance Manager.
Directs the work and planning for the Construction Department and Waste Handlers.
Directs the work and planning for the Machine Shop as well as validates work produced.
Responsible for directing the construction and repair work performed during the annual shutdown.
Ensures that all work scheduled is performed in a safe and efficient manner.
Ensures that Company plant and safety rules and procedures are enforced in the Maintenance Departments and that violators are disciplined in a fair and consistent manner.
Review, clarify as necessary and understand all provisions of the labor agreement and administer correctly. Also, understand and enforce all work rules and regulations, including safety rules and procedures.

Must be able to work in both hot and cold environments.
Must be able to practice safe work procedures and comply with applicable safety rules and regulations in a heavy industrial environment.
Qualifications:
High school graduate or equivalent with trade or technical schooling preferred.
Three to five years heavy industrial manufacturing experience.
Good verbal and written communication skills required.
Excellent planning and organizing skills required.
Able to effectively supervise and motivate.
