USA Detergents company history timeline

1988

Tide with Bleach was introduced in 1988 in a powdered formula.

After the introduction of color-safe bleach to Tide powder in 1988, P&G soon offered the first liquid detergent with color-safe bleach: Tide with Bleach Alternative.

1992

Again, following its lead with compacted powdered detergent, P&G introduced Ultra Liquid Tide in 1992.

1994

1998

A reformulation in 1998 resulted in liquid Tide Clean Rinse.

2004

Tide with a Touch of Downy, introduced in 2004, offered a way to combine two of P&G's top-selling laundry products.

2005

European Union countries (Germany, Austria, Belgium, Ireland and Italy) have developed legislation with the support of environmentalists to control the addition of phosphates in detergents for clothes, in order to reduce water pollution (Cai and Hakkinen, 2005).

Tide also lent its name to a stain removal product, Tide To Go, as a way to increase sales in 2005.

2006

Consumers like different scents for their laundry and to create more scent offerings, P&G offered Tide Simple Pleasures in 2006 to leverage the success of Downy Simple Pleasures.

2007

There are four types of surfactants; anionic, cationic, nonionic and amphoteric (Kemmei et al., 2007).

Following the same environmental line of thinking of fewer chemicals, Tide Pure Essentials was created in 2007.

2008

In another brand cross-over, Tide with Dawn Stainscrubbers was introduced in 2008.

2009

In 2016, Tide launched it’s first plant-based* laundry detergent, Tide purclean™. Tide designed Tide purclean™ to have the cleaning power of Tide, but it is made with 75% plant-based ingredients, to be more sustainable without sacrificing cleaning power.

2019

And in 2019, Studio by Tide came on the market as a gentle detergent to help prevent dark colors from fading and for cleaning delicate items.

2020

As a heavy-duty deep cleaning laundry detergent that removes visible and invisible stains, Tide was able to provide the best clean for consumers, especially while their standards and needs were increasing in 2020.
