Pros of working at USAA

I personally really enjoy the work-life balance and how much downtime you are given right away.

Cons of working at USAA

One of the aspects I found disappointing is the culture, I had long heard the legend of USAA and its culture of diversity and service. There is a lot left to be desired as far as communication, the message, and above all else training.

USAA benefits

For me personally, having health insurance, health care, vision, dental, that is going to be the number one benefit to have for me. Time off is always great, however Ideally I love what I do and I'm covered.

I like working remotely.

Cons of working at USAA

I’ve been here 16 years and now they’ve cut pay/bonuses. They’ll overwork you, undertrain you and give poor knowledge resources. They monitor bathroom breaks and may require pto to be used if over 7 minutes. Hard to schedule time off

Do you guys actually care about my day, and plans, and life? I once had a lady ask me all about my wedding (happened a few days before the call). I couldn't tell if she was genuinely interested, or neither of us knew how to get out of that conversation and back to insurance, lmao. I do really like how personal each call seems though. It makes me feel less like a number. USAA helped me a lot when my husband was deployed and my car kept dying (first a dying battery, then blue tooth was slowly draining the battery). I'm a third generation customer, and plan on staying forever!

I know this is late - but I can tell you plainly that every single phonecall, the person you speak to is expected to care about you, to understand what you need in your life (not just with your transaction) and provide solutions if you need help. There isn't a way for USAA member's to know about all the things that USAA can do to take care of them, and as the USAA mission says, USAA wants you to have financial security.

Why don't your supervisors want to hear you using the word fraud? How is money usually taken from these people? My family just signed with USAA. Do you like the company? Will we get good treatment when we have problems?

Because, and I quote, "it's a scary word." We're supposed to use "unauthorized charges" and only use fraud in "fraudulent charges" when talking about when they'll be reimbursed. They don't like us to use the word "counterfeit" either, or even say that a copy's been made of a card, which is kind of impossible to not say that when they have their card with them and ask how a card was used in another city/country. Then again, I work at night and our supervisor knows we deal with the overseas/drunk/irate/scared/paranoid people, so when it comes to exact verbiage, we usually get off the hook unless we're being unprofessional. Daytime is a stickler though. Money can be anywhere from a few cents, where a fraudster is testing a credit card/bank account/debit card for money, and the most I've seen is over ten thousand dollars, but that case was different- it was someone who had this person's info calling in and making these transfers between accounts. Otherwise, money taken from a card like what I deal with usually caps around 5-6 thousand at the very most that I see, and that's a rarity. Hmm... I don't really want to bank with USAA, I like my own bank just fine. If you are in the military, their insurance and investment services are pretty good, but not something I'd use. IF I had better credit I'd maybe get a card with them, simply because of the kind of service I provide. As long as you are curteous on the phone and set up a good rapport with the rep you call in to (and don't make ridiculous demands like "increase my credit card limit from 1000 to 35000" which is kind of impossible most of the time) you shouldn't have an issue. The most I'd say you'd need to be careful with is that if you don't live in or near San Antonio you'll never see a person... uh... in person since they are an internet bank.
