The Foundation Model group within Prescient Design is seeking an exceptional UX Researcher for a 6-month contract. Our team is at the forefront of developing AI and agentic frameworks to revolutionize drug discovery. We are specifically looking for candidates with direct experience in LLMs (Large Language Models) and AI agents, and/or a background in biotech, pharma, or a related industry, with a proven track record of shipping internal software products.
As the bridge between our AI development team and our users-world-class scientists and biomedical experts-your mission is to ensure our agentic framework is not only powerful but also intuitive and seamlessly integrated into the complex workflows of cutting-edge drug discovery. You will champion a user-centered approach, translating deep user insights into a product that accelerates scientific breakthroughs.
The Hiring Manager is prioritizing profiles with experience in LLMs/agents and a background in biotech, pharma, or a related field, specifically those who have shipped an internal build, software, or product.
The Role
In this role, you will be instrumental in shaping the user experience of our internal AI platforms. Your key responsibilities will include:
Define AI Product Strategy Through UX Research: Lead end-to-end user research to directly inform the product roadmap for our agents and LLM-based applications. Identify critical pain points in scientific workflows and uncover new opportunities for AI to drive efficiency and discovery.
Design and Execute Rigorous Usability Studies for AI Products: Develop and implement specialized user testing methodologies (e.g., contextual inquiries, task-based usability tests) to evaluate the effectiveness and intuitiveness of our LLM-driven interfaces and agentic workflows.
Operationalize User Feedback for AI Systems: Build and manage a systematic process for gathering, analyzing, and tracking qualitative feedback on our models and agents, enabling data-informed improvements to the core AI infrastructure.
Uncover Actionable Insights for Agentic Frameworks: Analyze qualitative data from user sessions to understand how scientists interact with and trust AI outputs. Synthesize findings to reveal what drives user adoption and engagement with complex AI tools.
Build a User-Testing Infrastructure for Internal AI Tools: Create and maintain reusable testing protocols and recruitment pipelines tailored for internal, expert users, elevating the quality and efficiency of user research across the organization.
Collaborate Deeply with AI/ML Engineers & Scientists: Work closely with technical teams to translate complex user needs from drug discovery units into clear, actionable product requirements for our AI models and agentic systems.
Communicate with Clarity and Impact: Synthesize diverse data to provide compelling insights and recommendations. Effectively advocate for the user to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, influencing product features and the strategic roadmap.
Qualifications
3-5+ years of experience conducting UX research and usability testing, preferably with complex, expert-facing systems or internal tools.
3-5+ years of experience in qualitative and quantitative research methods, including generative and usability studies, data analysis, and A/B testing.
Demonstrated experience with AI products, specifically Large Language Models (LLMs) and AI agents.
Experience with UserTesting, Contentsquare, or similar usability testing platforms.
Have experience building and scaling a user research practice, including establishing processes for recruitment, testing, and knowledge management.
Know how to connect deep user insights to product strategy, roadmap decisions, and business impact.
Possess strong analytical skills and are comfortable synthesizing complex, often ambiguous, qualitative data into clear, actionable themes.
Enjoy tackling ambiguous, high-stakes problems and have a genuine curiosity for understanding complex domains like drug discovery.

Ideal candidates have at least 4 years of hands-on experience leading research studies, with experience partnering with stakeholders or clients during the research process. We are open to candidates from a range of consulting and research backgrounds (e.g., UX research, market research, academia, public health, etc.).
This role requires availability to attend in-person research sessions or client meetings at our NYC office or designated client sites.
The qualified candidate will be responsible for:
Building trusted relationships with clients, including providing consultative guidance and proactively recommending/implementing solutions to drive the research process forward
Leading UX research studies end-to-end, including:
Consulting on research methodology or project scope, as appropriate
Developing moderator guides
Consulting with clients on the development of prototypes for testing
Moderating remote and in-person (when safe) user experience research studies or conducting interviews in the field
Analyzing the research findings, delivering insights that address the stated research questions
Crafting recommendations in alignment with research findings for potential next steps in product development
Developing presentations (written deliverables and/or slide decks) to communicate findings and recommendations
Collaborating with clients to ensure the report meets their business needs
Presenting to client teams
Exploring creative solutions to research challenges, such as providing recommendations to improve internal processes or establish best practices with our clients
Continuing to develop your research and consultative skills, leveraging these skills to create research experiences that our clients, participants, and colleagues love while delivering impactful results
Keeping projects on schedule and within scope and budget
Contributing to AnswerLab's knowledge library: documenting best practices and contributing your expertise to internal initiatives and learning experiences as appropriate.
We understand that outstanding candidates can come from a variety of backgrounds. While specific experience is important, we are ultimately looking for candidates who have the personal characteristics to thrive in a growing client-focused business.
The qualified candidate will have experience in and meet most of the criteria listed below:
4+ years of hands-on experience conducting qualitative research, either in the UX space or a related research field.
Leading consulting engagements with clients/stakeholders -- either in research specifically or with a management consulting firm that uses analytical data to support conclusions
Designing and writing discussion guides, screeners, test protocols, and final reports
Using online/remote tools for conducting research (e.g., Zoom, WebEx, GoToMeeting, etc.)
Conducting presentations with senior-level business managers and executives
Demonstrated ability to 1) work independently and drive towards deadlines, 2) produce high-quality deliverables for clients, and 3) think creatively and solve problems
Ability to engage with business and research managers in Fortune 500 companies
Excellent communication skills and the ability to facilitate discussions
Ability to work in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment, manage competing priorities, and be an independent problem-solver
Presentation skills, including building slide decks and presenting results and recommendations to clients
Undergraduate and/or advanced degree - preferably an educational background in Experimental Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Human Factors, Human-Computer Interaction, or other related disciplines with a solid foundation in research-based design using qualitative methods

+ As a UX Researcher, you will conduct independent research, analyze real user behavior and work with Designers, Product Managers and Engineers to improve product for business users. Your research will be a key driver in making projects successful, and you are encouraged to find new opportunities for improving product UX.
**Responsibilities:**
+ Drive user centered product strategy through close partnerships with Research, Design, and our product partners (PMs and Eng).
+ Work closely with executive stakeholders to understand top of mind questions and define and scope research to answer those questions.
+ Define the roadmap of research for foundational and strategic work across product pillars.

**Experience:**
