The Role:
As an AI Researcher, you'll push the boundaries of generative AI, advancing LLMs and multimodal systems through foundational research. Your work will enhance model efficiency, accuracy, and scalability, directly shaping our high-performance AI infrastructure. You'll collaborate with top experts in deep learning, distributed systems, and optimization to bring cutting-edge research into real-world applications. You'll also have the opportunity to shape how some of the world's leading companies build and deploy AI through the models and tools you help create.
Minimum Qualifications:
Research background in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Physics, or similar field
Experience solving analytical problems using analytic and quantitative approaches
Experience communicating research to audiences with different backgrounds
Experience coding in C/C++, Python, or other similar languages
Preferred Qualifications:
PhD degree in Computer Science, Computational Physics, Mathematics, or a similar field
Research and engineering experience demonstrated via grants, fellowships, patents, internships, work experience, and/or coding competitions
Experience having first-authored publications at peer-reviewed conferences or journals
Experience working with ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or Jax
Total compensation for this role also includes meaningful equity in a fast-growing startup, along with a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package. Base salary is determined by a range of factors including individual qualifications, experience, skills, interview performance, market data, and work location. The listed salary range is intended as a guideline and may be adjusted.

As a User Researcher at DigitalOcean, you'll join a dynamic team dedicated to revolutionizing cloud computing and AI. Reporting to the Manager of User Research, you will act as a critical link between our users and our business. You'll work with product and design teams to guide the future of our business by generating actionable insights that ensure our products and services meet the everyday needs of our users.
You'll lead research for critical customer journeys and products, serving as a strong advocate for applied research and a user-centered mindset across the organization. In addition to leading tactical studies, you will contribute to strategic, continuous research programs that elevate overall "customer intelligence" across the organization. Working with your fellow researchers and strategy leaders, you'll also help shape the team's culture, ways of working, and approach to ResearchOps.
What You'll Do:
* Lead Research from End-to-End: Manage every step of the research process, from study planning and participant recruiting to conducting activities, analysis, and reporting.
* Generate Actionable Insights: Partner with product managers and designers to scope and lead tactical research that drives decisions and helps teams understand user needs.
* Influence and Advocate: Create impactful deliverables that clearly communicate your findings and recommendations, spurring teams to action. You'll serve as an advocate for user exposure, empowering peers to center the customer experience in their daily work.
* Contribute to Our Research Practice: Help build and improve research practices, methods, and guidelines. You will also contribute to our centralized research library, increasing the accessibility and impact of every insight.
What You'll Add to DigitalOcean:
* BS or MS in Interaction Design, HCI, Cognitive Science, Psychology, or equivalent experience
* 3-5 years' experience planning, conducting, and communicating the findings from user research for digital products and services, ideally with a focus on technical users
* A strong ability to understand and articulate user needs, as well as to generate and communicate compelling & actionable insights
* A strong understanding of the digital product lifecycle and the ability to collaborate successfully with designers, technical & business teams
* Proven knowledge of an array of quantitative and qualitative research methodologies and how to combine them to generate the most actionable insights
* Excellent communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to influence leaders as well as peers
* Ability and interest in running short-term tactical studies to inform rapid product iteration, with some experience and desire to plan and run strategic research with a longer time horizon and wider impact
* Familiarity with qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis tools, including Qualtrics, GreatQuestion, GetFeedback, Amplitude and Looker
* A proven track record in conducting mixed-method research studies and an ability to demonstrate the impact of research
* An interest in collaborating closely with cross-functional teams and colleagues from across the organization
* Previous experience within the Cloud computing industry is preferred but not required
* Experience in market research is also a plus
