Job Summary

UT Southwestern has an opening for the position of Sr. Manager Public Relations, Office of Communications The Senior Manager of Public Relations is part of the Office of Communications, Marketing and Public Affairs and is responsible for crisis communications, issues management, and executive communications on behalf of the EVP of Institutional Advancement, as well as for managing a wide variety of external-facing communications, strategic planning, proactive and responsive media relations, and management of personnel. Reporting to the Director of Public Relations, the Senior Manager of Public Relations interacts with executive leadership, physician leaders, managers, and staff throughout the institution, as well as in the community at large on a wide variety of topics and issues. Job Duties:
  • Serves the executive communications needs of CMPA and EVP for Institutional Advancement, writing and producing talking points, statements, and presentations.
  • Provides strategic planning for public relations events and activities, including press conferences and media events, as well as promotional planning for medical and scientific topics.
  • Plans and executes communications by researching, writing and editing articles, news releases, statements, and announcements for online, printed and social platforms.
  • Manages and advises on media requests, media pitches, media responses and statements, media and filming crew escorts, and media training.
  • Interacts with executives, faculty, managers and staff throughout CMPA and UTSW, recommending communications strategies for outreach, including owned, shared, and earned media channels.
  • Coordinates timing and messaging with other marketing and communications professionals at UTSW and external institutions, organizations, agencies and businesses.
  • Manages communications managers and communications personnel.

Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center has been awarded the comprehensive designation by the National Cancer Institute and rated as one of the top 25 cancer centers nationally by US News and World Report. This position will work primarily on cancer research trials at Parkland. Research Nurse will assist with screening new patients, existing patient records for available clinical trials. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • BSN required, MSN preferred.
  • 5 years management experience in Perioperative Services; certification in Perioperative Nursing (CNOR) preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC), and current Texas RN license required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Work requires ability to operate basic/standard pieces of OR equipment. Work requires basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and EMR

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Manages the daily patient care activities of the Operating Room.
  • Assures efficient utilization of OR resources by proactively managing the long-range (4-6week) patient schedule in collaboration with anesthesiology directors and surgeons.
  • Supervises & evaluates staff through observation of performance. Ensures competency of new employees & performs annual evaluations. Conducts coaching & counseling sessions with employees following hospital policies & guidelines. Identifies learning needs/opportunities of staff and addresses the need. Identifies, supports & implements cross training of staff in collaboration with directors & the education department.
  • Collaborates to ensure accountability for nursing standards, evidence based practice, & regulations. Responsible for regulatory readiness of the department at all times.
  • Assures adequate fiscally & clinically responsible daily staffing. Assures department meets its productivity benchmark.
  • Responds to emergency situations & initiates appropriate responses as necessary. Remains calm and continue to provide leadership & a sense of professionalism during emergency situations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work is performed primarily in a hospital/clinical setting. Routine walking, climbing, and lifting.
