Utah County company history timeline

1800

By 1800, three historical Native American tribes used Utah Valley: Paiutes, who used the west side of Utah Lake; Shoshones, who sometimes traveled here from north; and the Utes, who were the main group who lived around the lake.

1847

A party of Mormons explored the valley in 1847.

1849

In January 1849 Brigham Young sent a fishing party to catch fish for the hungry settlers in Salt Lake Valley.

There were originally 7 counties established under the provisional State of Deseret in 1849: Davis, Iron, Sanpete, Salt Lake, Tooele, Utah, and Weber Counties.

Mormon pioneers began settling Utah Valley in 1849.

1850

Many of the other communities were officially founded the following year,1850, including Alpine, American Fork, Lehi, Pleasant Grove, Payson and Springville.

Richard C. Roberts and Richard W. Sadler write about the history of Weber County, Utah for the Utah Centennial County History Series. "Weber County was one of six original countys established in the territory of Utah in 1850, and for a time it bordered California and the Oregon territory.

1852

Salt Lake County, Sanpete County, Tooele County, Utah County and Weber counties was the original 5 counties created on March 03, 1852.

1856

The county was created by the Utah legislature on 31 January 1856, a week before the Parowan group set out to make their new home.

Martha Sonntag Bradley writes about the history of Beaver County, Utah in the Utah Centennial County History Series. "The settlement of Beaver County began in February 1856 when fifteen families from Parowan moved by wagon thirty miles north to Beaver Valley.

1861

It was made part of the Uintah Ute Indian Reservation in 1861." Published by the Utah State Historical Society and the Duchense County Commission.

In 1861 Brigham Young sent surveyors and missionaries to explore the Uinta Valley for settlement.

1865

Irrigation has always been the key to prospering on the fertile farm land in the valley and the first irrigation districts were formed as early as 1865.

1869

When the transcontinental railroad was completed in 1869, it only took four more years until a line was extended to Provo and then later south and east to give rail connections throughout the Intermountain West.

1873

The Provo Woolen Mill became the state’s first large manufacturing plant in 1873.

1880

The Utah State (Mental) Hospital dates back to 1880 but was formerly known by less politically correct names.

1890

Electric service first came to the valley in 1890.

The first large-scale sugar beet factory in Utah was built in Lehi in 1890.

1896

Douglas D. Alder and Karl F. Brooks write about the history of Washington County, Utah for the Utah Centennial County History Series. "When Utah was granted statehood on 4 January 1896, twentyseven counties composed the nation's new forty-fifth state.

The State of Utah was created as a the 45th state on January 4, 1896.

1903

The fledgling institution went through some rough years and nearly folded on occasion before officially becoming Brigham Young University on October 23, 1903.

1905

In 1905, the Strawberry Valley Water Users Association incorporated with $2 million in stock.

1907

Created on DATE from LAND. COUNTY County was renamed to COUNTY County on November 7, 1907.

1919

Daggett County was the last county created on March 04, 1919.

1937

Eons of geologic history are visible, especially in Capitol Reef National Park, first set aside in 1937 after decades of effort by residents.

1938

Construction of the 155-foot-high dam was started in 1938.

1994
