  • Camp Nurse - YMCA Camp Pepin

Red Wing Family YMCA 3.1company rating

Utilization review nurse job in Stockholm, WI

To apply for this position, visit this link: ******************************************************************* Job Title: Camp Nurse - YMCA Camp Pepin FLSA Status: Seasonal Reports to: Camp Pepin Director Starting Pay Rate: $600-$800/week + room and board The Camp Nurse at Camp Pepin plays a crucial role in the success of our summer. As the camp's on-site nurse, your most common task would be treating the daily bumps, bites, and bruises that naturally occur at camp. That being said, it's possible that a more significant injury or illness could occur, which is where your true expertise comes into play. Our nurse is NOT responsible for performing any major medical procedures, but for controlling a situation and consulting with camp leadership on the best course of action - is an ambulance needed? Do they just need to drink water and rest? Another major responsibility of our camp nurse is the distribution and documentation of medications to campers and underage staff. All medications are safely stored and secured in the Health Office, and it is the nurse's responsibility to administer medications as needed. This usually entails a med check at morning flagpole/breakfast, lunch, dinner, and bedtime. All medication administration must be documented in our official medical log, which is made easy by our online administration system that is built into our camp management software. It's required that the nurse at Camp Pepin lives on site while camp is in session, in order to be available in an emergency (camp runs from Sunday afternoon to Friday afternoon). The position comes with significant responsibility and importance, but life at camp for our nurse is a pretty sweet gig. You are provided all of your meals, as well as your own private room within airconditioned staff lodging, and have the Health Office at your disposal. Your fellow staff are from all over the world and are some of the best people you'll meet! And honestly, you can't beat living at a summer camp. Our view of Lake Pepin is stunning, and the daily activities and performances serve as constant entertainment each day. The camp nurse is the perfect role to gain hands-on experience in the medical field, while also playing a pivotal role in the impact that summer camp can have on our campers. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: General Healthcare - Provide first aid for the daily bumps, cuts, or scrapes of summer camp. Medication Manager - Administer, document, and monitor the medication administration for campers. First Responder - Serves as the medical professional in emergencies, directing care until EMS arrives. Support Resident Staff - Support our counselors in preventing issues and providing care for the campers. Administrative Duties - Maintain all required logs and records and communicate with parents. Oversee First Aid and Supplies - Supervise first aid procedures and maintain well-stocked first aid kits throughout camp, including various designated areas. Health Education and Supervision - Educate camp staff on health risks (e.g., dehydration, heat exhaustion) and supervise the screening of campers and staff upon arrival. Continuous Communication with the Camp Director - Regularly report any issues or concerns related to health and safety to the Camp Director. YMCA COMPETENCIES (Leader): Mission Advancement: Accepts and demonstrates the Y's values. Demonstrates a desire to serve others and fulfill community needs. Collaboration: Works effectively with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions, and perceptions. Seeks first to understand the other person's point of view and remains calm in challenging situations. Listens for understanding and meaning; speaks and writes effectively. Takes initiative to assist in developing others. Operational Effectiveness: Makes sound judgments, and transfers learning from one situation to another. Embraces new approaches and discovers ideas to create a better member experience. Establishes goals, clarifies tasks, plans work, and actively participates in meetings. Personal Growth: Pursues self-development that enhances job performance. Demonstrates an openness to change and seeks opportunities in the change process. Has the functional and technical knowledge and skills required to perform well; uses best practices and demonstrates up-to-date knowledge and skills in technology. EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK The expected hours for the Camp Pepin Program Staff will be midmorning Sundays through Friday evenings. Camp Pepin Program Staff will assist with the preparation and planning of Staff Training via virtual meetings before camp starts. Program Staff are expected to be onsite 24 hours a day when camp is in operation. There are times when staff will be off or away from children when camp is in session, though the camp director will develop a schedule of duty times. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Mobility: Camp nurses may need to move around the campsite to respond to medical emergencies or provide care to campers. Lifting: There may be a need to lift or assist campers with mobility challenges. First Aid and Emergency Response: The role may involve quick and effective response to injuries, requiring physical agility and ability to perform first aid. Visual/auditory ability to identify/respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity. Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid; must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) Some physical requirements of a Program Staff position could be endurance, including prolonged standing, some bending, stooping, walking long distances, hiking, climbing, and stretching. Willing to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours with limited or simple equipment and facilities; and with daily exposure to the sun, heat, and animals such as bugs, bats, etc. QUALIFICATIONS: Must be at least 21 years of age.
