UVA Culpeper Hospital company history timeline

1960

She moved to Virginia to start working at Culpeper Regional Hospital (now known as Culpeper Medical Center) in 1960.

1964

1964 - Prince William Hospital opened in Manassas, VA.

1967

Vivian Pinn, MD, was the only Black and only woman in her class to graduate from UVA School of Medicine in 1967.

1970

Mavis Claytor, from Roanoke, was the first Black woman to earn a bachelor's degree at UVA School of Nursing in 1970.

1971

1971 - City Memorial Hospital of Thomasville renamed to Community General Hospital of Thomasville.

1971 - Medical Park Hospital opened in Winston-Salem.

1976

1976 - Orthopaedic Hospital of Charlotte is founded by a group of orthopedic surgeons.

1977

The Museum of Culpeper History opens in the historic train depot as its forth location since 1977: larger and more inclusive with a wide variety of themes.

1989

She joined the UVA faculty in 1989.

1991

Snustad retired as the medical director for the Colonnades Medical Associates and the Colonnades Skilled Nursing Center since their openings in 1991.

1994

1994 - Presbyterian Hospital opened Presbyterian Hospital Matthews in Matthews, NC.

1995

1995 - Presbyterian Hospital opened Presbyterian Hemby Children's Hospital in Charlotte, NC.

1995 - Rowan Memorial Hospital renamed to Rowan Regional Medical Center.

1997

1997 - Community General Hospital of Thomasville merged with Novant Health.

1998

1998 - Orthopaedic Hospital of Charlotte merged with Novant Health and is renamed to Presbyterian Orthopedic Hospital.

2000

On New Year's Day in 2000, she helped save a 2-day old infant when the newborn's echocardiogram was sent to her to UVA from Winchester Medical Center, 130 miles away.

2001

2001 - Community General Hospital renamed to Thomasville Medical Center.

2004

2004 - Presbyterian Hospital Huntersville opened in Huntersville, NC.

2008

2008 - Rowan Regional Medical Center merged with Novant Health.

2011

2011 - Brunswick Novant Medical Center relocated to Bolivia, NC.

2013

2013 - Clemmons Medical Center opened in Clemmons, NC.

2014

2014 - Haymarket Medical Center opened in Haymarket, VA.

2015

In 2015, the health system provided more than $706 million in community benefit, including charity care and services.

2016

Karen Rheuban, MD, is co-founder and director of the UVA Center for Telehealth, which was renamed the Karen S. Rheuban Center for Telehealth in 2016 to recognize Rheuban's significant contributions to the field of telemedicine.

Novant Health UVA Health System was formed Jan 1, 2016, as a new regional partnership between Novant Health and the University of Virginia Health System.

2018

2018 - Novant Health Mint Hill Medical Center opens.
