As a Clinical Pharmacist Specialist, you will be a registered pharmacist who assumes responsibility and accountability for the provision of safe, effective, and prompt medication therapy. UCM Specialty Pharmacy supports and provides direct patient care to adult and pediatric populations. Our pharmacists cover pharmacy operations and clinical needs for 15+ specialty ambulatory clinics. This position is designed to support our clinics in Specialty, which include Oncology, Neurology, HIV, Transplant, Rheumatology, and Gastroenterology. Pharmacist responsibilities include clinical and operational tasks to support specialty pharmacy and provider needs. The pharmacist will work alongside world-renowned providers. Pharmacists will rotate through the Hyde Park campus for one week every 6 to 7 weeks and work from home the remainder of the week. This is subject to change. UCM Specialty Pharmacy team is highly dedicated to ensuring all patients achieve the most benefit from their medical therapy. Eligible for a Sign-On Bonus up to $5,000 Through various assignments within the department, Clinical Pharmacy Specialists provide support of centralized and decentralized medication-use systems as well as deliver optimal medication therapy to patients with a broad range of disease states.     The core philosophy of the NC State Veterinary Hospital Pharmacy is that pharmacist are expected to make meaningful contributions to non-human patient care through hospital service, education, community service, and research. Optimal pharmaceutical care can be defined as the identification, resolution, and prevention of drug-related problems that affect positive patient outcomes. We believe that this is best provided through a team approach that effectively integrates the knowledge and skills of the pharmacist with those of other health care professionals. Our vision is to ensure the safe and optimal use of pharmaceuticals for all patients of the NC State Veterinary Hospital by having pharmacists provide a central and visible role in all aspects of medication management. Duties and Responsibilities Resident will participate and lead clinical rounds in both small animal, large animal, and exotic animal clinics. The Resident will perform drug utilization review on hospital patients. Time will be spent in the clinical pharmacy or clinical pharmacology laboratory providing drug information, preparing sterile and non-sterile compounds and chemotherapeutics agents, designing, implementing and monitoring clinical drug studies. The resident will spend approximately 50% of time providing clinical pharmacy services, mentoring of APPE students, and responding to drug information queries; and approximately 50% of time in other activities including clinical service rotations, research activities, and outreach to North Carolina veterinarians and regulatory agencies. This is a one year program. Other Work/Responsibilities Upon successful completion of this residency the resident will be eligible for Board Certification Specialty Status in International College of Veterinary Pharmacy.     * Perform comprehensive pharmacist duties including interpreting prescriptions and dispensing medications, vaccines, and therapeutic agents. * Consult with prescribers, nursing staff, and patients on medication use. * Ensure pharmacy operations comply with state/federal regulations and professional standards. * Administer vaccines and emergency medications; furnish contraception, emergency contraception, PrEP/PEP, and medical abortion per California protocols. * Maintain inventory and handle pharmaceutical waste; ensure proper acquisition, storage, and documentation of drugs and supplies. * Oversee pharmacy security, confidentiality, and compliance during audits and inspections. * Assist with pharmacy administration, including billing, accounting, insurance processing, and transaction reconciliation. * Manage cash transactions and maintain drawer balances; handle refunds. * Support quality assurance, inventory audits, satisfaction surveys, and policy development. * Serve as Interim Pharmacist-In-Charge as needed; stay current on pharmaceutical laws and practices. * Train and update staff on regulations and standards; ensure full compliance with professional codes. * Participate in SHC initiatives, professional development, and cross-campus duties as required. Minimum Qualifications: Required Education and Experience * Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy from an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) college of pharmacy program or other program recognized by the board as defined by the California State Board of Pharmacy. Equivalent to one year of experience as a licensed pharmacist working independently. Required Qualifications * Comprehensive knowledge of the laws and regulations pertaining to dispensing, storage, and recordkeeping of drugs, narcotics and poisons. * Thorough knowledge of all drugs, chemicals and supplies required in the operation of the Student Health Center pharmacy. * Working knowledge of automated pharmacy systems; and campus procurement and budgetary processes. * General knowledge of pharmacy administration and the requirements of serving as a Pharmacist-in-Charge. * Ability to compound and fill prescriptions; evaluate written prescription orders to determine ingredients needed and ensure proper dosages; review patient profiles against prescriptions for potential drug interactions and allergies; serve as a resource to practitioners and other medical support staff in the areas of pharmacology, drug combination, drug interaction, and alternative drug therapies; participate in the development and implementation of pharmacy policies, procedures and protocols; prepare and maintain accurate records and reports; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other health center staff and management; be sensitive to, communicate effectively with, and provide support to diverse patients; and provide lead work direction to pharmacy support staff.
