Team spirit: the diversity of the team members offers great opportunity to discover passions, traditions and open one's mind to a global picture of the world. The diversity and inclusion of all ages and origins made for a dynamic, interactive and collaborative environment.
No room for individuality: It's the company's way pushed from the top down. While the upper level is offered relocation program and can afford multi-million dollar housing and be offered flexibility in being present for launching a season in a newly acquired resort, the lower level employees are unable to afford housing close, have to commute and are penalized when absent.
Lift tickets. It would have been nice to also have transportation and housing reimbursement.
Beautiful mountain environment. Meeting and serving customers from all over the world. Learning and appreciating a new perspective on the retail and hospitality industries.
Lack of vertical movement opportunities given my years of management experience and portable skills. Compensation and appreciation not commensurate with my experience and contributions. I miss world travel and leading a progressive team to reach challenging and strategic goals. I also miss participating in technical and intellectual conversations required to solve complex problems.
Fantastic health benefits and the opportunity to live in one of the most beautiful settings in the U.S.
Connection to other resorts has benefits
I was shocked to discover how disorganized & unprofessional Vail resorts was. Quite frankly in my over 20 years teaching skiing (or in my other "day jobs"), I have never seen any employer so incompetent. Vail is spending way too much time buying new resorts up (like mine) to put any time in to actually figure out how to run an eastern resort. They've taken great ski areas & made them horrible. Customers are pissed & leaving as well as many valued former employees. How bad does it have to be before they either sell to someone else or hire someone to get it together! Unbelievable & heartbreaking!
lots of opportunities to improve in your field
very political and nepotistic sphere for moving upward in the company or for assignment opportunities
on-snow trainings for instructors
they do try to increase wages to match cost of living
emphasis on employee satisfaction so that we could do our best work rather than treat lower tiers as expendable
there was no preparation needed
It used to be more feasible to increase hourly wages. Wage increases are not proportionate to certification.
It’s wildly male dominated and male-centric
Making a long lasting difference in the confidence of my students through our lesson.
you get to live the life of a ski bum
the pay, dealing with management that sucks
ski free when not working
nothing, they fail at everything
communicate with the employees, and pay them for working. Don't ask them to show up for work and then cut them.
show up, that's about all you need to do
it sucks. They don't pay you for the hours you have invested to do the job
yes, they hire people who have zero experience in management jobs and let them try to manage hundreds or thousands of employees just to meet a diverse goal.
helping the guests and trying to give them an epic vacation.
None that I can name
They don’t care about there staff and their well being.
A pass that you never get to use for yourself because they are working you
Poor they are out of touch with their staff and their needs and concerns
Pay people what they are worth and get real management back. They hire managers that don’t know what the staff does.
Knowledge about the company and what they say are their values but don’t practice.
Poor
They have some but seldom the most qualified people
Going home at the end of the day.
