Valley Christian Academy company history timeline
In the Spring of 1979, a group of dedicated Christians, under the leadership of New Life Assembly, began planning a Christ-centered Christian day school.
By 1979, the Lord had blessed, and VCA had its highest enrollment of 484 students in grades K-12.
Valley Christian High School was founded in 1982 by Jim Carpenter, Guy Davidson, Richard Hatfield, Harold Molenaar, Michael Tucker, and Steve Yarbrough, each of whom continued their work on the Board of Directors for a number of years.
In 1982, a Talent Development class was initiated to meet the needs of students with learning disabilities.
The Trojans have won a state-high 29 state track & field championships since 1985.
In 1990, VCA purchased Lake School from Aurora.
The first building on the school’s Chandler campus, the Bradley Gym was built in 1997 as a gift from former Tempe mayor Elmer Bradley to Valley Christian High School.
Construction began on the Skyway Campus on August 20, 1998.
The junior high and high school grew to about 1200 students by January 2000.
Opened on the east end of campus in 2001, Benson Field plays host to the Trojan football, soccer and track & field teams.
The Leigh Campus opened in February 2003, after being delayed by a fire, providing a permanent home for our elementary students through a long-term lease arrangement with Trinity Lutheran Church.
Mark and Anna were recognized with the Director’s Award in 2003, given by the Board of Directors in recognition of outstanding service to Valley Christian High School.
In the spring of 2006, the School Board made the decision to grow a Middle School program to include grades 7 and 8.
In 2006, a new high school facility was built on the original property, which included a new gymnasium, twelve classrooms, a chapel, and a café. Other notable additions to our organization are:
Resurfaced in 2011, the track is a constant reminder of the Trojans’ unparalleled success not only in Arizona, but in the nation, when it comes to Track & Field.
Created in 2012 to honor former athletic director Marlin Broek’s 29 years of service and dedication to Valley Christian and the athletic program, the Broek Athletic Complex comprises all of Valley Christian’s state-of-the-art athletic facilities.
In 2014, the school took the next step toward completing the Growing the Vision Campaign and the school’s master plan by building the Trojan Softball Field.
Opened the Lewis Center for Gifted Learning in Downtown Youngstown for grades 3-8 in 2014.
In 2015, Benson Field and Kuiper Track were featured in a New Balance commercial starring Dustin Pedroia, Jenny Simpson and Kenny Mayne.
In 2015, Youngstown Christian was renamed Valley Christian to better represent all the communities our students live in throughout the Valley.
Broek was inducted into the Chandler Sports Hall of Fame in 2016.
In the fall of 2016, a PreK class was reintroduced to the program.
Expanded once again by opening our Pleasant Grove Campus (PG) for grades K-1 in 2016.
On August 24, 2017, VCA opened its doors for the first full day of school with 43 students enrolled, Grades Kindergarten through 5th.
