A Brief Summary of This Position: While working under the direction of the Departmental Supervisor/Lead Person, the Material Handler will be responsible for the complete process of loading all products safely and accurately according to company policies, procedures and work instructions. Shift: 3rd shift (Nights) Monday-Friday 11PM-7AM Starting Hourly Pay Rate: $19.65 + $1.00 for shift differential Opportunity for step pay increases at 90 days, 1 year & 2 years Essential Functions: * Be responsible for the proper identification of material being loaded or unloaded by part number, description, quantity and quality * Be responsible for gathering customer orders and staging by stop schedule on the consolidation card and updating the consolidation cards for shortages * Use ship papers and CDR load sheets to identify product to be loaded as required * Transport product to the staging area using straddle truck and forklift * Be responsible for operating overhead cranes to lift/move pole product from bolsters to bolsters * Perform general housekeeping which includes and not limited to sweeping, painting, operating powered sweeper and mopping * Exercise a keen sense of awareness when moving product to dispose of wood dunnage with exposed by product to avoid tripping hazards. * Assist in loading trailers as needed * Other duties as assigned Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities): * High School Diploma or GED * Must be able to read and write English * Ability to use common manufacturing math * 6 months prior experience working in a manufacturing environment * 6 months prior experience operating heavy equipment * 6 months prior experience using computer inventory control system * Become a certified forklift operator * Complete overhead crane training * Become proficient in operating a straddle truck Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications: * 1 year prior experience working in a manufacturing environment * 1 year prior working experience operating heavy equipment * 1 year prior working experience using IFS system to tract work orders * The ability to accurately and honestly check one's own work for quality assurance * A person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results Working Environment and Physical Efforts: Ambient temperatures in work areas coincide with seasonal weather changes. Exposure to metal and smoke fumes due to surrounding processes. Abnormal noise level throughout the shop requiring hearing protection to be worn at all times. Direct exposure to dirt, grease, mill scale, cutting fluid, rust inhibitors, and metal particles and splinters. Incumbent will also be exposed to production facilities where specific PPE will be required such as hand, hearing, foot, eye, and head protection. There will also be frequent exposure to outside elements for short periods of time. Being outside will also expose them to material handling equipment such as forklifts, straddle trucks, and shag trucks. Working conditions may vary with specific work assignments. Some areas of the plant can be a noisy at times with sound levels reaching above 85 decibels. Hearing protection is available for those areas. Safety glasses and metatarsal safety shoes are required at all times in the plant. Gloves are required during certain operations. Face shield is required in addition to safety glasses when grinding. The employee operates machines that use liquid coolant and may also be exposed to cast iron dust. The employees must be able to spend the entire work shift on their feet within the plant environment. Some outdoor work is required which includes work in conditions with abnormal temperatures. Employee works around material stacked overhead height. Conditions range from clean work to exposure to odors, fumes, drafts, wet conditions, dirt, grease, smoke, dust, noise, high temperatures and low frigid temperatures. These conditions range from severe to mild and can happen daily and in any combination. An Electromechanical Technician works in disagreeable weather conditions nearly 30% of the year. On an occasional to frequent basis, operator is required to lift/carry parts. Most weight moved is less than 30 lb. Although a few items do weigh more, a maximum lift of 50 lb. is all that is required. Standing, bending, pivoting, walking and reaching overhead are required during most of the shift. Climbing ladders, pulling wire through conduit, hanging fixtures and electrical components also requires a physical exertion. Lifting, carrying, bending, kneeling, stretching, crawling and working in awkward and/or confined positions is frequent with any electromechanical technician. The pole assembly generally consists of a square or round shaft, base plate, hand hole, arm mounting simplex, tenon-top, and/or other small parts * Manually position shaft on stationary turner to position shaft for assembly. Uses jib crane for lifting various components, such as base plate and arm mounting simplex, into position for assembly. Frequently pushes, lifts, and pulls up to 50 pounds * Reads and interprets drawings to determine parts needed to assemble pole assembly. Locate and gather parts needed for assembly, from parts staging area that is staged by the Storeroom personnel * Read and interpret drawings to ensure proper location of various small part attachments * Uses plasma torch to cut steel. Utilizes jigs made at Valmont for cutting holes in shafts for inserting hand hole rims, arm mounting simplex's, couplings, and other small parts. Uses table to convert fractions to decimals, and decimals to fractions * Works in confined areas at various locations of the pole assembly line as necessary to accurately measure and assemble components described above. Moves under, around, and over poles as necessary, to get into proper position to assemble pole assembly * Uses motorized grinders, motorized buffers, stone grinders, and drills to help assemble product * Maintain Safety awareness and be alert at all times, to detect, avoid, and/or correct unsafe conditions. * Maintain appropriate professional competencies, certifications, licenses, etc., necessary to perform job. * Make management aware of any training needs you have.
