A Brief Summary of This Position: Under the direction of the Production Supervisor or Department Lead Person, the Welder Helper will assist with moving and placing of material and product at predetermined places by means of overhead cranes and forklifts. This person will rework and weld component parts by grinding and/or welding to blueprint specifications. Shift: 3rd shift (Nights) Monday-Friday 11PM-7AM Starting Hourly Pay Rate (LG4): $19.65 + $1.00 per hour shift differential Opportunity for step pay increases at 90 days, 1 year & 2 years Essential Functions: Comply 100% with PPE requirements and actively participate in department safety, demonstrate excellent safety practices and behaviors which conform to all Valmont safety policies and procedures Clean and grind parts (debur) as needed and cut metals to predetermined sizes and tolerances. Use common shop manufacturing math to include adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing fractions and conversion of decimals Determine the center of an object using basic measuring skills and shop mathematics Perform operator preventative maintenance on overhead crane, forklift, and welding/ cutting equipment Safely use overhead crane to properly position product for welding or grinding Comply with direction from Shop Supervisor and Lead Person Perform routing machine operations such as feeding or unloading a machine, and assisting worker by holding materials or tools. Pass a 1G v-groove weld test using GMAW and maintain certification Safely operate band saw for cutting raw material product according to drawing Other duties as assigned Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities): Must be able to pass Valmont endorsed 1G flat weld certification test Six months of previous hands-on welding experience in a professional environment Must be proficient at math to include adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing fractions and conversion of decimals Must be able to accurately read a measuring tape Maintain high awareness for safety at all times Read, write, and/or speak English Must be able to communicate and interact with coworkers in a positive manner The ability to work in a high volume, fast paced environment Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED equivalent Current Valmont endorsed 1G flat weld certification One year of previous experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment One year of previous hands-on welding experience in a professional environment American Welding Society (AWS) welding certification from a recognized school Working Environment and Physical Efforts: Ambient temperatures in work area coincide with seasonal weather changes. Exposure to metal and smoke fumes due to surrounding processes. Abnormal noise level throughout the shop requiring that hearing protection worn at all times. Direct exposure to dirt, grease, mill scale, cutting fluid, rust inhibitors, and metal particles and splinters. Incumbent will also be exposed to production facilities where specific PPE will be required such as hand, hearing, foot, eye, and head protection. There will also be frequent exposure to outside elements for short periods of time. Being outside will also expose them to material handling equipment such as forklifts, straddle trucks, and shag trucks. Job consists of various types of weld preparation, welding and weld finishing operations to manufacture product to customer drawings, specifications, or other forms of instruction. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Includes the following; other job duties will be assigned in a progressive manner. Welding of tanks and components from mechanical drawings, blueprints and written specifications. Interpretation of weld requirement. Knowledge of wire and filler materials applications for various steel alloys, aluminum, and some exotic materials. Holding weld quality to set criteria, checked by x-ray and penetrant inspection. Holding dimensional tolerances per blueprints. Other duties may be assigned. Working knowledge of fixturing and weld set ups. Conventional and precision measuring instruments. Process inspection, certification, and documentation. Welding equipment maintenance. Adheres to requirements of ISO 9001 and maintains procedures and work instructions to satisfy these requirements. Active participation in 6s, lean initiatives, continual improvement, and any other program deemed necessary by management. Proficient in welding stainless and aluminum. Also, must be able to fusion weld, spot weld and/or braze. Duties will also include cleaning parts for welding. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position has no supervisory responsibilities; however all team members are expected to self-supervise to ensure the Companies Continual Improvement philosophy and Core Values are maintained.
