POLICE OFFICER-Limited Part Time up to 44 weeks per year
Performs a variety of routine, and complex, police/public safety work consisting of preventative patrol, community policing activities, criminal investigations, vehicle crash investigations, enforcement of Federal and State Statutes, enforcement of Valparaiso University Rules & Regulations, traffic control activities, safety checks, event, and site security, responding to medical and fire calls, providing emergency response to community member requests, as well as performing all other police/public safety functions within the Valparaiso University Campus.
Must support the mission of Valparaiso University and the Valparaiso University Police Department to ensure the safety, security, well-being, and retention of the university's students, faculty, staff, guests, and property.
Major Responsibilities:
To patrol the Valparaiso University Campus, and nearby city streets, on foot, bicycle, ATV, or in a police vehicle to preserve law and order, to prevent and/or discover the commission of a crime, to aid citizens in need, to note and report situations which endanger the health, safety, and convenience of the campus community.
Answer calls for service, and impartially, investigate complaints.
Investigate crimes, and campus rules and regulation violations, legally arrest persons, or issue state and campus citations. To participate in prosecutions or campus judicial processes, and to work with the campus community in an effort to reduce crime in the community.
Provide campus policing services to the campus community, as needed. (including, but not limited to safety programming, bank details, Clery reporting, funeral escorts, animal control, medical and fire assistance, motorist assists, and other services.)
Perform security protection and traffic control for various events/activities on and near campus. (Including uniform and undercover details)
Completes all required reports accurately and in a timely manner.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Hold an Indiana Law Enforcement Academy certification or equivalent law enforcement academy/experience.
Must be able to adapt to changes and perform duties under life-threatening or high-stress environments.
Minimum of a high school education.
Maintain a current driver's license.
Major Logical and/or Critical thinking to solve problems and interpret instructions.
Ability to communicate effectively, in English, both verbally and/or in writing, with the police department, campus community, and the general public.
Operation of tools and equipment.

Ability to evaluate various options, which could include life and death decisions.
Ability to effectively deal with personal danger, which may include exposure to armed and/or dangerous persons, dangerous animals, communicable diseases, hazards of emergency driving, hazardous materials, natural and man-made disasters.
Must be capable of working holidays, weekends and shift work.
Authority and Responsibility:
To protect life and property; the patrol officer will enforce Federal Law, Indiana State Statutes, and the Valparaiso University Policy, Rules, and Regulations. This could include one or more of the following: performing investigations, detaining, restraining, and/or arresting subjects, temporarily committing a person to a health facility, and/or making life or death decisions in the line of duty. Administrative decisions will be made by the VUPD command staff, and will not be made by patrol police officers. (Examples include: departmental policy changes, scheduling, and addressing the media.)
Tools & Equipment used:
Police vehicles, police radios, radar, TASER, Alarms, handguns, rifles, shotguns, batons, handcuffs, pepper spray, first aid equipment, personal computer (including a variety of software packages), and telephone.
Confidential Data:
Police officers must maintain confidentiality, as they will be exposed to law enforcement sensitive records. Confidential data includes all police records. A few examples of these records are as follows: criminal records, requests for services, traffic information, juvenile records, domestic abuse complaints, child abuse complaints, employee personnel files and all written and computerized records. There are legal and internal controls on the release of any information from the Police Department.

Valparaiso University Police Department is currently accepting applications for a Part-Time Police Officer. The position is uniform patrol. Applicants must be certified police officer in Indiana or have completed another state academy that is transferable to Indiana. The primary role of the associate dean in the School of Sciences will be to work with the dean to support the school and replace the dean when the dean is absent.

Additional Qualifications
The primary role of the associate dean in the School of Sciences will be to work with the dean to support the school and replace the dean when the dean is absent. While specific duties may change with time in agreement with the dean, the associate dean will have the following responsibilities:
* Act as dean for the school in instances when the dean is unavailable.
* Coordinate assessment activities for the school.
* Coordinate KEY activities for the school.
* Coordinate outreach activities for the school.
* Assist the dean in evaluation of full-time and adjunct faculty.
* Assist personnel in the school with recruitment and retention efforts.
* Direct the General Studies degree program.
* If the person filling the role of associate dean has a background in the natural sciences, the associate dean may also serve as coordinator for natural sciences.
* Other reasonable duties and initiatives as assigned in coordination with the dean.

Key Responsibilities: Employer Relations Support: * Assist in maintaining and growing relationships with employers, both locally and nationally to provide career development opportunities for students. * Help coordinate employer events, such as job fairs, employer panels, and networking sessions.
* Aid in managing employer outreach campaigns, including email communication and employer database updates.
* Assist in preparing and distributing employer satisfaction surveys to assess the effectiveness of career center programs and services.
* Collaborate with development to encourage high profile organizations to get identified for potential philanthropic support of the Career Center.
Graduate Surveys and Alumni Data Collection:
* Collaborate with the Career Center team to design and distribute graduate surveys, collecting data on alumni employment outcomes, job placement rates, and industry trends.
* Analyze survey data to create reports that highlight key trends, including which companies and industries alumni are working in.
* Ensure data quality and confidentiality, adhering to university policies on data privacy.
Additional Responsibilities:
* Provide general support to the Career Center team as needed, including assisting students with career-related inquiries, reviewing resumes, and conducting mock interviews.
* Stay informed about industry trends and employer needs to help improve employer engagement strategies.
* Assist in creating and updating promotional materials and online content related to employer relations and career services.
* Participate in staff meetings and contribute ideas for improving employer relations and student engagement.
* Assist staff in planning and executing events hosted by The Career Center (e.g., Career Expos, Signing Day, etc.).
* Oversee the Career Center's co-curricular record/ badging system including updating content and grading student submissions.
Qualifications:
* Currently enrolled in a graduate program at PNW.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail.
* Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); familiarity with career services platforms (e.g., Handshake) a plus.
* Experience in data analysis, survey creation, or reporting is preferred.
* Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, alumni, and employers.
* A positive, professional attitude and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

* Must be a PNW Graduate Student. GPA 3.0 or higher.
* This position is tuition reimbursement as well as monthly stipend.
* This position is in person and on the Hammond Campus.
* This position begins in the summer with hourly pay.
